Ban all benefits for foreign nationals. If you want to come here to work and contribute we should roll out the red carpet, handing out free houses and money to anyone and everyone is part of why we’re so broke as a country.
I’m in favour of some nuance on this. Foreigners who have stuck their neck out for us should be entitled to benefits.
I’m thinking the likes of Ghurkas or Afghanistan’s translators etc.
Also if they pay a certain about in taxes then certain benefits entitlement doesn’t seem unreasonable.
That can’t be legal under equality legislation and would be overruled immediately, surely.
Stupid policy wide open to challenge, which I suspect is the point because Tories prefer loudly fighting courts than fixing problems – it’s their speciality when they are struggling to stay relevant.
Just expand the list of people included in the _No Recourse to Public Funds_ category if you’re hell-bent on it, rather than creating a two-tier and more complicated disability benefits system that specifically excludes people on the basis of their background.
I agree with this, and I’m a foreigner in this county myself.
I’m not sure what the policy is around disability benefits specifically for foreigners, but every work visa/BRP/whatever replaced these two is issued with the words “no recourse to public funds”. No one’s getting houses or JSA.
People on work and family visa’s don’t qualify for benefits. It’s written in bold on their visas.

There are already plenty of types of visa and other kinds of immigration status which include the “no recourse to public funds” condition.
It sounds like she’s proposing a blanket ban that applies even someone who e.g. came on a spouse visa and has indefinite leave to remain, works and pays taxes, but is still waiting for the required period before obtaining full citizenship. Telling someone like that they get no help if they become disabled seems pretty harsh.
I suspect this one’s more about getting herself the headline than any serious policy proposal.

If you have been working for the country and has no priors I don’t see any reason why he should not be entitled to benefits if, for example, a workplace accident leaves him disabled
Right… well the anxiety thing is a minefield, there’s a difference between feeling anxious and being clinically diagnosed and medicated with an anxiety disorder, it’s nowhere near the same thing, they aren’t even in the same league as each other in regards to the life destroying effects the latter has over the former.
Bundle both together and the governments liable to get sued over it so for her sake I’d tread carefully in that regard.

The Conservative leader will use a forthcoming speech to draw a clear dividing line between her party and Labour on welfare reform. Central to her message will be a demand to restrict personal independence payments (PIPs) and sickness top-ups to Universal Credit strictly to British citizens.
She will say: “These benefits, which can be worth up to £1,200 a month, must only be available to British citizens. **Foreign nationals**, with the exception of EU citizens with settled status, should be excluded from these payouts.”
This is why you never cave to conservatives on befits cuts, they will just ask for more cuts
Tories imported 2million people per year under their rule and now 1 in 25 ppl here were born outside the UK.
They let more in than labour before them and now labour will probably let even more in. Reform is the only option left for anyone with any criticisms on these numbers. They shouldn’t even mention immigration as if they’re tough on it.

Alternatively, marrying your cousin should be banned, it’s been clearly linked to higher rates of disability in children. That’s not just opinion, multiple studies have shown this.

Isn’t this the lady that was born in the UK and spent the first 16 years of her life abroad and wouldn’t have even qualified for citizenship in the manner that she did if she was born 15 years later.
I truly don’t understand people like her. First generation immigrant. Literally an anchor baby. Yet perceives herself to be just as British as someone who’s been here since year dot. And is vehemently anti immigrants *even though her own parents would fall foul of what she proposes*.
If you’re a UK citizen, regardless if you’re born in Tyneside or Timbuktu, then you should have the same rights as the rest of the population.
It would be better if we started giving disability benefits based on the definition of disability that we had about 50 years ago.
If you come to the UK and you haven’t paid in you should receive absolutely nothing.
If you have paid in for 5 years then you can become eligible.
