How experienced do you have to be to know not to drive up to 90 mph on country roads?

yeah, not important but everyone wants to know. it’s the guy on the right. apparently the guy in the middle is a taekwondo champion, assuming the Birmingham mail has correctly captioned the photos.

I feel sorry for whoever it was that oversaw his test.
They must be full of guilt and probably have their career in question.
Can’t blame them, though. The test can only go so far.

Naive is not the word I would use. Cocky? Arrogant? Seem better fit

Seriously? Back in my day your first car was a shitty Fiesta or a Metro.

Who ever bought the car for him and paid for the insurance (mummy/daddy I suspect) is just as much to blame as him. Unless of course it’s mummy’s car and he’s a named driver but drives it all the time (had a doormat colleague who struggled to get to work because she let her son do that with her car).

I read, and I don’t know how much truth there is in, that men dot develop the ability to assess risk properly until they’re in their early twenties. One would also assume that this was some prehistoric programming to allow men to hunt without just running away all the time.
Again and again we see young men die in cars. With their friends as well.

Driving at ‘excessive speed’ is nothing to do with naivety.

The best thing to do is to sit every newbie driver kid in front of sim racing rig for an hour or two.
I once wanted proper sports car too, but after I started sim racing I came to conclusion that I wouldn’t be even able to drive it and it doesn’t make any sense to get one. I’m much safer driver now too.

I got caught being naughty (37 in 30) and did a speed awareness course. I have no idea why that isn’t the last bit of getting the license. It broke down the facts and made it very clear how pointless it is.

Kids acting like kids. They should make it 21 and passengers when 25. Would make UK fitter also, bonus.

They really need to put some kind of passenger restrictions on new, young drivers.
