  1. Really doesn’t seem long ago hearing of the last ww1 veterens dying. After the last battle of Britain pilot died earlier this year it really hit home how close we are to ww2 fading from living memory too

I bet he died thinking why did I fucking bother looking at the shit tip the UK has turned into.

  3. He’d probably be happy speaking German considering how the country has turned out.

some people have all the luck, hes got a triple locked pension and triple locked longevity.

  5. This will serve as a reminder not to take any shite from regular old people in the 70 to 80 range about how hard their lives have been. Current 80 year olds were born 1945 into the long peace in Europe and the start of the welfare state.

  6. It’s a nitpick, I know, but that title… Oldest *surviving* person?? Has *died*??? As in the opposite of surviving…

Secondary and Uni material(s) in this country regarding Britain’s role in the conflict are severely in need of updating.

Just as one very small example, got entire generations all grown up thinking (‘cos that’s what they were taught) ‘we’ invented radar and that the Germans knew very little if nothing about Chain Home. The truth is much more interesting!

  8. It occurred to me that at 110, he likely outlived many of his compatriots by 90 years or more. Sobering.

Irony is UK fought alongside Russia so Russia won, and Today we have a serious Russia problem “as a result”.

Russia wouldn’t have invaded Ukraine if they were beaten in WW2

    Thank you sir

Sorry what’s happened to the country you fought for

  11. And he fought for nothing, at the end. The nazis are currently winning, decades later. This is why if there was another war, I won’t fight for my country or anyone, as it’s a waste of my breath for people who don’t deserve freedom.
