So they’re prioritizing actionable manned missions over science based sample capture on mars? Makes sense to me. I think reestablishing our ability to land on the moon is more important today than collecting samples. Prove that we can successfully complete manned flight in the modern era before dreaming about mars down the line.
It’s exactly like everything else this administration does. They want the optics that make them look strong and powerful, but they don’t care about the science or truth beneath it.
So yes for the showy stuff that would realistically take more than his term to actually fulfill, and nay to the boring science stuff that Trump doesn’t believe in anyway. Big surprise.
“Well, we’ve got three useable space shuttles just collecting dust somewhere, right? Let’s fire one of them up.”
They are not interested in actual scientific research that could be conducted by a manned mission just the optics of “going back to the moon”. Unfortunately, I believe this will just be another way for Trump to launder money he’s stealing from the American people, so I highly doubt there will be any manned missions and god help anyone who is on whatever they slap together.
Congress already expressed that they don’t want science cuts either, in fact a budget for FY 2026 that was proposed on their side has a slight increase to existing NASA budget.
