As a follow up on my rant post about the shambolic trains a few days ago I wanted to make amends and balance my feedback as I fly away tomorrow.
Your country is truly amazing – you people are gorgeous, kind, welcoming and fun! The rivers and sea so clear, your food: best salmon ever and I love your bergen fish soup…your cinnamon cake is nice but the absolute winner I will never forget- your strawberries! I traveled in 23 countries across 4 continemts and never ever had sweeter. Thank you for the fun, the adventure, the great food and the lesson in patience in your public transport! 😁

I’m enjoying those jordbærs every year, my parents took little strawberry plants with them from Norway and planted them in their garden (I’m from the Netherlands and went on holiday to Norway with my family for about 10 times, really good times)
How did you make your first million?
and korona is infinitely better than favori
The strawberries are not as good as they used to be though. Rules were relaxed a few years ago, making it possible for farmers to use a lot of new sorts of strawberries.
Previously it was basically just two sorts of strawberries being produced, Korona and some other kind. Korona is very tasteful, but it has to be eaten quite fast after being picked. It spoils easily both from transportation and storage. All farmers producing the same berries also made sure they matured around the same time, and tons of strawberries were dropped on the market in a relatively short time window, which made prices drop as well.
Now they can produce berries that mature earlier and later, and they chose berries that are easier to transport and store. This has prolonged the strawberry season a lot, and there is no flooding of the market when everything matures anymore. Huge win for the farmers, less waste from unsold or spoiled berries and they sell for a far higher prices over a much longer season.
Korona is very uncommon to see in the stores now. You might be lucky to have some local farmer selling them where you live, but the wast majority of berries you find in stores are of far less tasty sorts now. It’s still good, but I feel shafted every time I buy some. Twice the price and half the taste.
Well, everyone here knows that the trains suck. They are never on time. Take boats instead. Always precisely on schedule 👌☺️
