  1. Can’t help but feel the BBC are using him as an additional scapegoat to deflect from their own failings in dealing with Wallaces allegations better and earlier.

Like – by no means am I saying what he has or hasn’t done is ok. But one *allegation* of a racial term, which he apologized for, and he’s dismissed?

I imagine him and Gregg with two GGs aren’t the best of mates right now.

As I understand it this was something that happened several years ago and would never have come up again if it wasn’t for the internal investigation into Gregg Wallace being a perv.

Yeah, after Huw Edwards I’m going to wait before saying he probably didn’t deserve to go. End of an era, I liked Masterchef.

Many years ago he was the chef guy on This Morning. The way Richard or Judy pronounced his name meant for years I honestly thought his name was Jonty Rhode.

This triviality is obviously not related to the actual news.

I suppose though that now both are disgraced that the BBC will pull everything from iPlayer.

I quite liked John Torode, he knew what he was talking about. Wallace was just a gurning chancer who shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near an audience.

Time to be rid of MasterChef – it’s just the same thing over and over and over. No evolution. Just pretentious foodies pretending their version of a boiled egg is somehow superior to everyone else’s boiled eggs. Rince and repeat.

Does seem a bit harsh but to be honest I’ve always found him intensely unlikeable so I can’t really see it as a big loss. Actually might watch Masterchef if they can replace him and Wallace with someone a little less unbearable.

Can’t really form an opinion without knowing what he said? Someone must know?!?!

Just seen that the comment whatever it was, was made in 2018, no complaint made at the time, the person who has subsequently raised the matter did not believe it was said in malice…

I really hope Monica Galetti gets the lead presenter role if they decide to continue with Masterchef. I think she’s a great presenter and her skills tests are brilliant.

Torode has ended up as bonus dish to be served up alongside Wallace’s head. Whatever he said was serious I’m sure but he would still be in a job if Wallace had not created an investigation into the whole show with his behaviour meaning other things swept under the carpet got looked into

  10. Elsewhere there is a post about the BBC angling for everyone to be forced to pay a licence fee whether they watch the BBC or not.

I don’t want to be funding them at all, in any way.

  11. Amazing 1 racist comment gets you sacked but it takes a LOT of women coming forward from fairly systematic mysogyny, indecent exposure etc etc some of which was on film for Gregg to be ditched. Clearly both are abhorrent but women clearly still don’t matter to the BBC

  12. colin_staples on

Well I guess they definitely won’t be showing the series that was already filmed then.

  13. Unlucky-Jello-5660 on

So its a 7 year comment he apologised for and the other person didnt even think it was meant maliciously?

Seems like a bit of an overcorrection because of the Greg stuff.

  14. Wallace undoubtedly needed to go but giving Torode the boot stinks of being a clean up job. Getting rid of their dirty laundry and hoping that it draws a line under yet another BBC scandal.

1 allegation from 6-7 years ago that you used an offensive term in a social setting, that the accuser says was not used maliciously and was apologised for straight away…and your livelihood is taken away from you? Jesus…

Served him a fish finger sandwich once. He ate the whole thing but called it all sorts of horrible slurs as he gobbled it up. He didn’t even use his hands just savaged it to pieces and then gulled it all with a big racist glint in his eye. He was very friendly to me though so I think this is an outrage.

  17. Marcus and Monica to take over? Or are they gonna bring in fresh faces? Perhaps masterchef in this current format has gone as far as it can go. There is so much food content on our telly these days , not to mention youtube. I reckon John and Lisa will end up doing something now then.

  18. madeleineruth19 on

Sorry, this is a bit ridiculous. First of all, why is no one sharing what was actually said that was racist. I feel like context is important in this case. Second of all, why is he being fired for an incident that happened seven years ago, wherein the victim themselves seemingly took no offence?

I’m ‘woke’ and usually the first person to call for consequences for stuff like this. But this whole thing feels like a knee jerk reaction, and it’s unfair.

That said, the guy never spoke up all these years about Wallace, so who really knows what’s going on under the surface.

  19. For someone who would consider themselves Woke, I can’t help but feel like John Torode has been made out to be a bit of a scapegoat here.

Sacked for a comment that he made over 7 years ago, that the person he said it to didn’t make any complaint or take it in an offensive way, and hasn’t been published what the comment was that he allegedly said??

I hate racists just as much as the next bloke, but this stinks. Systemic sexual harassment that warranted lots of complaints vs 1 comment that wasn’t even taken offence to.

    Ridiculous.

That’s a massive backfire after it was Torodes wife that started the takedown of Wallace
