What with this and the online safety act, they may as well start doing Government announcements sponsored by NordVPN…

I have a bunch that I alternate using depending on what I’m looking for, a bunch of them use Cloudflare – They’re all working as of right now so obviously part of this ‘200’ which I’d be curious to see which ones these are as I’m using fairly popular ones.

  3. Gotta keep that proxy list up to date. Was pirating like Blackbeard last night with no problems. Three mobile broadband, Leeds.

Ye be smoking the hardiest crack if ya thinks cloudflare will stop me from sailing

    They need to understand enshittification.

I pay for 4 streaming services.

I’m going to cancel at least 2 of them because 1) content is turning to shit, 2) the interfaces seem to be trying to squeeze adverts in and 3) when I have problems streaming, I use a pirate website and have no issues with streaming and no adverts beyond popunders.

Software? Some of the software is prohibitively expensive and I can’t even do a free trial to see if it does what I want it to do. I’m not going to shell out £7k, in some cases, to find that it just doesn’t really work properly (and I have spent that on specialised software in the past but only after a trial period). Or trying to force SaaS onto everything… Just sell me a licence and stop trying to force me into paying monthly.

This is largely protecting shit business models that deserve to die.

So, two options. Download qBittorrent and add the search plugins so you don’t even need to go on websites to find what you want, or a free VPN such as Proton.

Interesting that despite knowing that these are pirate sites they are only geo-blocking UK IPs and not blocking access wholesale…

Gotta keep the black market cash flowing into their coffers.

Anyway, your ISP blocks it then there’s no point in Cloudflare blocking it because you already can’t access it, and if you already got around the ISP block by using a VPN then the Cloudflare block is inconsequential anyway.

The one I use still works. No, I’m not advertising it. I don’t want that one to take a hit next. But they might not be using cloudflare regardless.

  9. Policymakers doing everything they can to bring back the glory days of the Empire where all they did was go around fighting pirates

  10. I swear this is VPN companies lobbying for all of these internet related changes and events.
It’s basically mandatory now to have 24/7 vpn when browsing from UK

  11. The fact I watched Superman while led on my comfy bed last night says they ain’t doing a very good job.

The UK government has wanted a similar system to what China has for years now. None of this is surprising. They want to control everything you see on the Web.

It’s a big old world out there you know. There are many different languages people speak and many websites that serve those people in their own languages. Websites that carry things in multiple languages including English.

It’s a funny old world. A world that can be yours if you open your mind to the possibilities. There are so many possibilities no single entity could ever block them all.

  14. Cloudflare is a pox. It has put itself in place to be the perfect man in the middle or censorship agent.

I actually use an advanced DNS filtering service and I already have all the dodgy sites set to block I have a block on Phishing, Malware, Torrents & Piracy sites, it’s a lot safer to be online with those sites blocked anyway because most the viruses online come via dodgy websites and downloads.

What they need to do is bring out a law where it’s illegal to put adverts on a paid for streaming service because they are sneaking them in to pretty much every legal online streaming service these days (and it’s really annoying) which I’m sure will be pushing more people on to the dodgy streaming sites.

That’s curious, I use cloudflare for my dns over https via a pihole and I’ve not noticed anything blocked?

Literally just tried piratebay and a few others and nothing blocked.

If you’re not already using a VPN to do your pirating I don’t know what to tell you other than ‘why the fuck don’t you have a VPN?’

If they’re saying that I’m buying to lease, then I’m joining the high seas for permanent ownership.

I wanted to see Starship Troopers, a movie from 1998 that I watched for free on TV when I was 10 in a former communist country.

It cost £9.99 for the HD version. However it reverted to the SD version because my monitor didn’t support the newest anti-piracy content protection technology and amazon didn’t trust me enough to give me HD.

Let that sink in, my 2017 high end 1440p/144herz monitor was too old to support playing a movie that came out on VHS in impoverished Balkan countries in 1998.

And what good is that content protection anyway? The movie is available in 4k on every torrent site in existence…..

For anyone curious, Microsoft Edge has a built in VPN that gets round all current site blocks in the UK. If you dont want to downloas a 3rd party software to do it

  21. Hah! Love that the thread turned into an educational experience on how people are/ have been accessing content!
