The outrageous cleaning fees sealed the deal on Airbnb with me. Unfortunately it’s advent has seemed to make hotels worse or maybe that’s just Covid’s enduring effect of making everything shitty

  2. My theory for why is that using Uber is exactly as easy as its older counterpart calling a taxi. Maybe even easier bc you know the rate upfront and don’t have to worry about potential meter scams. Only additional fee, which you know about upfront, is an optional tip. Thus they have taken over a significant amount of the taxi market share and almost eliminated taxis altogether in some areas

Whereas AirBnB in many cases is significantly more of a hassle than its older counterpart of a hotel, with guests often being expected to clean/turnover the entire residence when they leave AND pay a “cleaning fee”. Plus often lots of other random BS fees. The idea of AirBnB is fine to me, but with the current practices allowed on the platform, it’s likely going to turn out to be an inconvenient and annoying experience. Thus many people have turned back to traditional hotels and AirBnB isn’t able to fully take over their market share

I legit think airbnb is one of the most destructive companies on the planet.

Has turned everyone with even a little money into a scummy real-estate speculator.

Ive seen communities absolutely *destroyed* by having 90% of their homes turned into shortterm rentals.

One of these disrupted an industry that was reviled for terrible customer experiences. The other wants you to mop the floors and clean the toilets with a toothbrush before you check out.

  5. AirBnB has been crushed by local laws against short-term rentals. The taxi lobby doesn’t have that kind of clout.

It’s just vrbo to me. Large houses in tourist areas to understand who the local players are for the next time round.

Uber has been a successful disruptor whereas airbnb is not. Business travel is where hotel giants make their bread and airbnb never presented a reasonable case to switch. I say that ironically however as I stay at an Airbnb when I travel for work but I recognize I’m a rare case.

Less people will be able to afford vacays and less will be able to afford cars so this data makes sense.
