  1. >Her father Stuart Field, 47, said his daughter was left ‘embarrassed’ and had no idea what she’d done wrong

Well, good job she won’t get any further embarrassment from the reaction to this

  2. The dad seems like a grifter. She is giving a speech at a Stephen Christopher Yaxley-Lennon event.

I don’t think that’s the British culture we want.

Hats off to Courtney for mastering compo face at only 12 years old!

More broadly this is literally one of the most idiotic stories I’ve ever had the misfortune to read. Nearly everybody involved is a cretin.

School holds a “cultural day” but bans the cultural expression of the country where the fucking school is.

Family decides to sponge off the press and make a big deal out of it. Despite daughter clearly not actually giving a shit.

Right wingers start threatening violence over something so ridiculous that should be met with an eye roll.

School closes so kids don’t get an education.

Well done everybody! Great work! Morons all round.

  4. So the far-right in Epping attacked a school, and another school is being targeted by the far-right

  5. I can’t help but feel like this is the exact chain of events her dad wanted to milk this for all it’s worth

Seems the big men are the threatening school teachers who are mostly women. Hate foreigners, love intimidating women.

  7. Hyperbolicalpaca on

That’ll help a young schoolgirl won’t it, threatening to attack it, screwing over all the other kids…

  8. General_Membership64 on

How has the entire senior leadership team at this school been outplayed by a Tommy Robinson fan who appears to be permanently in high Viz? 😂

Personally I think the dress is fine – its Geri Halliwell’s dress from 1997 at the height of Cool Britannia, and since we don’t have a national costume, that seems like a pretty good one to choose to represent British culture. And if the staff objected to this I think they were pretty silly to do so.

The fact she was giving some sort of “speech” raises my eyebrows a bit, and makes me wonder what the content of that was – the fact they’ve now got her speaking at a Yaxley-Lennon event gives me a good idea and that’s not the sort of British culture we want to promote.

Water was chummed, bait taken. FFS, the school is stupid for making a thing about this. Had they turned a blind eye to it, none of this would have been stirred up at all. Heads and dep heads need training on how not to fall foul of this crap.

The dad has seen £££ signs off the back of this story going viral and is determined to piggyback off this for as long as he can.

This will be old news by Monday, he’s probably thinking up more stunts to drag it out until he gets a spot on GB News or he can start a YouTube auditing channel harassing security guards.

  12. Longjumping_Stand889 on

This incident feeds off the paranoia some people have about British culture, both for and against. Jumping to a conclusion of it being racist to show the flag and the community who feel threatened responding just like other communities have done recently. It’s fascinating to see it play out.

  13. What a scumbag this fella is, i guarantee this isn’t the first time he has exploited his daughter to make money.

  14. From the supposed speech at the bottom of the article “But it can feel like being British doesn’t count as a culture, just because it’s the majority.”

I cant fathom this coming out a 12-yr olds mouth for some reason.

  15. Weird how when Muslims are issuing death threats it’s an example of how the country is going down the pan, but when the righty-whiteys do it, ‘its just just defending my freedoms innit’

  16. pintofendlesssummer on

What did the other cultures wear that day, and were their speeches not political ? You can argue until the cows come home, but the schools reaction has been the problem from the beginning. They should have let her participate in the day, and this would all have been forgotten about.

  17. Wondering_Electron on

The whole family seem dodgy as anything, especially when they went running to Tommy Robinson of all people.

  18. Glittering_Vast938 on

I’ve seen the video of her on the stairs cheering when her dad told her about giving her(her dad’s) speech at the Tommy Robinson rally.
The body language is quite disturbing actually.

It’s a shame how this has turned out, and her father seems like he’s milking it for all its worth. However all of this could have been avoided if we weren’t so scared of our own flag…

  20. >But sometimes at school, we only hear about other cultures – which is great because learning about different countries is interesting and important. But it can feel like being British doesn’t count as a culture, just because it’s the majority.

This is like going to a Pride celebration event and wanting to give a speech saying “sometimes it feels like we only hear about LGBT people but straight is a sexuality too, it feels like straight people don’t count these days”.

    Poor girl.

  21. unounouno_dos_cuatro on

Leave the child out of this, she’s a victim who has been failed by all parties in this situation. I’m an ESL teacher and that speech reads very much like an adult trying to impersonate a child.

  22. I really dislike what the world has become. When is the next Comet due to come round?

  23. It’s quite depressing how easily riled up the thicker end of our population are.

  24. Upbeat_Ice1921 on

    This is getting silly now.

School was wrong to isolate her, they’ve admitted that and have apologised.

But there is such a thing as “overplaying your hand”, this just makes everyone look bad.

  25. Are schools going to require a team of PR people to avoid such incidents in the future?

Even then it is pretty much impossible to handle something like this without incurring the ire of the usual suspects. Right wing media will jump at any opportunity and often be creative with the truth. There’s also the online far right sphere, which will outright manufacture stories from thin air.

Now we have a school under attack as some grifter is happy to exploit his daughter to get his 15minutes. Guess he’s craft enough to know there’s lots of right wingers DESPERATE to play the victim, they’ve been all over this story here.

  26. I feel sorry for the 12 year old girl here. She is being used by the father – not exactly father of the year.

As for the school, while stupid decisions = stupid results, none should face extremist threats and those people should be hunted down and punished.

  27. Manufactured Rage. Just can’t quite believe 12 year olds are being made to manufacture it now too.

  28. Prisoner3000 on

This is the children identifying as cats nonsense all over again. People are so fucking gullible

  29. Before commenting, please read the kids (parents) speech.
It is the culture equivalent of “in this black history month we must also celebrate other races like the whites and the aryans”

  30. LongAndShortOfIt888 on

This is like the most obvious plot twist ever. We need to stop apeing the American Moral Panic fad.
