  1. Climate change does not exist, Reform UK’s Mayor of Greater Lincolnshire Dame Andrea Jenkyns has claimed as parts of England swelter in a third heatwave of the summer.

The former Tory MP dismissed the drive to net zero as a “money making racket” just days after the East and West Midlands became the latest areas of England to fall into drought as the country struggles with the driest start to the year since 1976.

The Environment Agency is warning that three more areas – Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire, East Anglia, and the Thames area – have also moved into prolonged dry weather status.

    > When she was 18, Jenkyns’ father sent her photo off to a beauty pageant, and she eventually reached the final of Miss UK. In her late thirties, Jenkyns studied for a diploma in economics from the Open University before studying for a degree in international relations from the University of Lincoln.

I’m sure she has done her own research, what with a background in science and study of the climate.

  3. My favourite Tweet of all time goes:

_“Climate change will manifest as a series of disasters viewed through phones with footage that gets closer and closer to where you live until you’re the one filming it.”_

And I believe it perfectly summarises the attitude of climate change deniers. No one believes in it or treats it with necessary gravitas until they’re the ones who face the brunt of the consequences.

…..I expect nothing less from a failed Tory, who jumped on the next gravy train to support their lifestyle.

    Get back under that rock.

  5. Absolutely mental. Lincolnshire is agriculture heavy, and so many crops are dead, black and wilted in the fields.

Sometimes I am ashamed of the residents of my home county, her success was one of them. How they could vote in someone who does not live here, who does not care for here, because they don’t like the colours of others skin.

To be fair, she’ll say whatever she’s told to by Nigel, who’ll say whatever he’s told to.

  7. How are these people allowed to actually spread lies? I mean, I get it if they are allowed to climate change spending etc or if they feel that we should still be using fossil fuels etc – but to outright spread lies and misinformation is mental. How are they allowed to do this?

  8. I think they chose the perfect picture to represent her. Like a rabbit in headlights

We need an effective alternative to the Tories, by voting for a party full of the thickest ex-tories!

  10. Let’s play devils advocate and say it doesn’t exist. Do we not cheap renewable energy and to be energy self sufficient, whilst reducing pollution? Do we not want to reduce road traffic noise and air pollution? Do we not want to reduce the suffering of animals and the workers involved in their industrial slaughter?

What is the societal upside to not believing in climate change?

  11. Unlucky-Public-2947 on

The really depressing thing is that Lincolnshire is one of the places most in danger of disappearing if climate change ranges sea levels much further.

Reform are not interested in facts, just their opinions. They model themselves on Trump.

  13. “The Party told you to ignore the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.”

  14. Yeah, net zero is a money-making racket. Famously, there’s no money in fossil fuels, that’s why Dubai is so poor and humble.

  15. Well she is not wrong.

If you squint really really hard and just ignore all the geology meteorology data studies and peer reviewed published works. Then don’t wonder why summer has seemingly got quite warm and that snow is less each year. Oh and live in a day dream of your own making.

  16. The only question to counter this, if any politician gave a straight honest answer, is “who are your donors and who do they work for” that will give you all the information you need on her stance on climate change.

Of course climate change doesn’t exist! I also believe fairies live at the bottom of my garden!!!

I love Reform have spent a year telling us “oh no, what we mean is man-made climate change isn’t as significant as scientists are telling us” and then the proper crazies like Jenkyns come out and say what they really mean.

This happens due to a process called “synaptic pruning”. As you age, there’s a neurological reason why it becomes harder to accept new ideas and to learn new information, but importantly, to make connections and integrate new information to your existing knowledge.

For some people this issue is more severe than others. I suspect this woman does legitimately have a condition.

Reform don’t care about climate change, they live on a different planet so it doesn’t affect them

At some point as a society we need to seriously engage with the millions killed due to climate change due to several decades of corporations lying, paying for propaganda etc who knew it was real but it would hurt their profits.

These people should be legally liable and have their wealth stripped and be imprisoned for the rest of their lives

  22. NarrowGatedOpinion on

Very stupid, as stupid as the public here that will vote them in next time around

  23. Different_Focus_1371 on

I don’t think she is particularly qualified to say that. It’s just her worthless opinion!

  24. Baffles me everyday the amount of support this party has, like how fucking stupid do you actually have to be to listen to and believe these utter troglodytes?

  25. Weird how they have to go down the deny it exists route where science is against you….

Target than go down the “we literally can’t stop it” route which has science supporting you.

    Both have the same outcome.

  26. The most galling thing about people like her is the bulk of them don’t actually believe climate change isn’t real, they just say it because they’re invested in fossil fuels.

  27. running_on_fumes25 on

In 1999, the UK had 1 heatwave every 4 years on average.

Now its three a year and counting.

  28. Beautiful-Fox-FI on

Sorry, but if she doesn’t believe in climate change, how does she explain previous ice ages? Or the fact the climate has been significantly different during the time records have been kept? Or does she deny their existence too. Not believing in man-made climate change is stupid, saying climate change doesn’t exist full stop is the same as being a flat earther.

  29. She is wrong, obviously, but this is still a bad article, because “despite third heatwave of summer” implies that the hot, dry weather is due to climate change, whereas it’s mostly to do with a weather pattern that’s brought a lot of hot dry SE air to Britain.

Conflating those two things allows the deniers to pick a cold week and say “look, climate change doesn’t exist, we’re having a cold snap”.

Edit: And especially the ‘dry’ aspect – are people forgetting that as recently as *last year* we had a very wet spring and early summer

Reform UK be like: “Who are you gonna believe, me or your own eyes?!”
I’ll believe my own eyes, thanks.

Why can Reform be taken seriously on anything if they deny the blatant, evolving reality of climate change? We’ve JUST had a heatwave, drought and now there are warnings of flash floods.

Reform voters are passionate and show up to every election, even the local county ones. So if you don’t want to see Reform in charge of your council, let alone the country, you should be voting at all elections too.
