In a world increasingly ruled by tech companies, some of the industry’s most powerful figures appear to be quietly drafting blueprints for the near future. There’s just one catch: it may or may not be a democratic one.
In an interview on “Decoder,” a podcast by The Verge, tech journalist Gil Duran outlines a disturbing theory that a growing number of Silicon Valley elites are pursuing a vision of power not rooted in the common good, but in profit, feudal hierarchy, and total control of the platforms that define daily life for hundreds of millions of people.
Duran dubs this emerging ideology the “Nerd Reich” — a slurry of right-wing ideas championed by ruthless tech overlords like Palantir founder Peter Thiel, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, venture capitalist Marc Andreessen, and cryptocurrency titan Brian Armstrong, with some OpenAI CEO Sam Altman sprinkled in for good measure. Drawing on the reactionary writings of Curtis “Mencius Moldbug” Yarvin and the cryptolibertarianism of tech investor Balaji Srinivasan, this philosophy isn’t explicitly outlined by our billionaire overlords, but is nonetheless a useful framework that explains their increasingly undemocratic actions.

This video was originally released right before the election and if I saw I then, I would’ve scoffed at it and said these people are crazy. But, I saw it in February with my jaw hitting the floor because a lot of it was already coming to shape even that early on.

I can’t recall if that was before or after he Sieg Heiled, twice, in front of of the Presidential Seal. Vance has spoken of being influenced by Yarvin’s ideas, and he’s ultimately their man.

No shade to OP, I know that in some corners of the wider culture this info has been slow to get to them, or they never heard of “Mencius Moldbug” (lucky bastards) so I don’t object to this info being repeated and disseminated again, hopefully it does reach new audiences; but we are in deep, deep trouble here.
As awful and chaotic as the Trump/redhat MAGA wing is, and as awful as the Project 2025 Heritage Foundation/Vought wing is, there’s ALSO the technofeudalist billionaire wing of this mess – they serve roughly the same function as the weirdo sci-fi-obsessed futurist wings of the old German and Italian fascists of WWII, except with infinite money and near-monopolistic control of the internet service and apps and social media we all use.

We need to politely, but firmly outlaw billionaires. And change the public’s view of it from successful businessmen to gluttonous danger to society. they are Smaug, effectively. So, you get to 999,999,999 and you’re cut off. The rest goes to the government to fund things needed by the country. They still have enough to jet around, but not enough to pull this kind of shit.

This was already common knowledge months ago before the election. There was that whole viral video about it & JD Vance quoting Yarvin verbatim. It was the suspected rationale behind Trump wanting to invade fucking Greenland & Canada all of a sudden – to take land for future billionaire feudal states.
What’s doubly irritating is these billionaires aren’t even building anything impressive—it’s just some computer code and a lot of advertisements. At least the robber barons built things that were real, and actually useful.
