  1. Does this list include PC and console installs?

    Edit: Corrected my poor grammar.

  2. It sure would be cool if you could somehow incorporate the number of people playing games at the time. Be interesting to see how older games like original doom stack up against modern games with tons of players….

This doesn’t include world of warcraft and all the expansions it’s sold over the years. Including countless subs.

Even now there are millions of players.

How can something like this be omitted ?

Shadowlands: 3.7 million copies on launch day, setting a new franchise record.

Battle for Azeroth: Over 3.4 million copies sold on its first full day.

Legion: 3.3 million copies sold on launch day, matching “Cataclysm”.

Cataclysm: 3.3 million copies sold on launch day.

Wrath of the Lich King: 2.8 million copies sold on launch day.

The Burning Crusade: 2.4 million copies sold on launch day.

This is not a comprehensive list of the wow expansions. . But if all summed together it should be huge.

  5. How accurate are the numbers from games released in the 80s and 90s are? I can’t imagine how hard it must have been to track worldwide figures + multi-tiered distribution channels using tech and systems back then.

  6. Surely after such success from the previous opus, TES VI is right around the corner !

  7. The Sims seems a notable omission.

Wikipedia has The Sims 4 at 36 million copies sold which would put it quite high on your char

  8. They should make a sequel to this Grand Theft Auto V game. It’d probably be a big hit.

  9. IMO Wii sports (and to some extent SMB) should have a big asterix next to them since they came with the console.

  10. Why is no one talking about human fall flat? Never would have guessed it on the list let alone so high

I always hate that these charts include pack-in titles. I feel like that’s a completely different thing

  12. I enjoyed Hogwarts Legacy but I am absolutely shocked it sold that well, top 20 games of all time is insane

  13. Comparing games that were bundled with consoles (like Wii Sports), games that were free or very cheap (Battlegrounds, Minecraft) and games that actually cost people money (like GTA V) is imo completely useless. Newsflash: people will accept games they have no choice whether to take, and games that cost them nothing, in large numbers.

Dang, I’ve never even heard of half the top 10 and the first one I’ve played is #13 (Tetris).

It’s crazy that two small indie games, Stardew Valley and Terraria rank so high above many AAA titles (even if this list is incomplete). They are amazing games, but I didn’t realize their sales numbers were we so high.
