I’m just a dumb foreigner but doesn’t this read almost like it’s just meant for rich people to be able to pay their way out of having to deal with courts and risk getting criminal convictions in their record?

Or can anyone explain why this is a great proposition?

  1. Lawyers are the evil of distruction to both people and countries.

They make the rules so they know the loopholes. And obviously governments and authorities rely on them only.

I hope you don’t have any experience on being accused of a criminal case as i do unfortunately. First time i had to go to speak to the lawyer, I understood how they work. They exaggerate the crime so they look that they have to do something extra for your case and thats generate money.

And business people can afford these king of lawyers and help them through the loopholes and this is one of them.

  2. Probably because rather than spending money taking someone to court and entering a long and expensive drawn out battle to get the funds owed, it makes more sense to settle for a lower amount with more of a guarantee of getting it. Not saying it makes sense but given the astronomical amounts owed by some large businesses it’s a way of cutting losses.

It could also be just a nefarious way of the gov keeping their friends happy.

  3. And after 230 years of court proceedings the culprits will get a stern telling off

This is very bad.  Just to be clear, if you and I make a mistake in our company’s taxes, we do not face criminal charges.  We just get a fine.

Criminal charges are for when you very clearly attempted to evade tax, not when you made an error.

Avoiding jail time is a much stronger incentive to not evade tax than paying a fine.  People would risk the fine for the potential reward.  Far fewer people would risk criminal proceedings imo.
