Good job we’re building the required infrastructure to accommodate this…
Just think how bad the government’s GDP figures would be without all these new people.
And thankfully, the economy is working well enough to find productive employment for all those people to the benefit of everyone.
/s
At the same time planning approvals hit a new low.
Worthless joke of a government. When Reform wins it will have been self inflicted.
People moan about Reform but they are literally the only party who understands to any extent that GDP per capita matters, and you can’t keep importing unlimited numbers of people who are burdens to the economy if it isn’t growing and we’re not building any infrastructure or housing.
So we’re also having the second-largest increase in housing stock in 75 years right?
Right?
Thank god for all those doctors paying tax into the economy.
Remember this is all based on theoretical studies that immigration is good for the economy. Studies that assume migrants aren’t responsible for the national debt, and makes many other false assumptions.
Just don’t look at the real world data as it may shatter your worldview….
Good job they’re all skilled workers contributing and integrating into society.
These immigrants will be contributing so much additional Tax revenue to the Economy I’m super confident that Reeves will announce Tax cuts for all in her Autumn budget. All those nasty black holes will soon be a thing of the past /s
And remember, if you dare question whether we can support this you’re a fascist
Any break down of;
-who are here as students
-who is on a work visa
-who are asylum seekers
It isn’t mainly fueled by immigration, it is only fuelled by immigration as we don’t have a replacement birth rate
England really is bursting at the seams. I don’t know why there isn’t more an attempty at population redistribution across the 4 UK nations.
Also something notable is how many Brits are just quitting the UK, maybe more ‘quiet quitting’, for example millenials maintaining a vestigal link to the UK through being officially registed at their parents address, so they can use healthcare services and vote, but realistically doing things like digital nomad/remote work
This was the year up to June 2024.
Be interesting to see the change since then, since Sunak’s rules will have kicked in.
Lets do some maths..
Number of new homes built in the whole of the UK in 2024 was 217,000
Average Number of People who live in each house 2.36
2.36 x 217,000 = 512,000
leaving a short fall of housing for 188,000+ people in 2024, note that the new house numbers include NI and Scotland, the population increase only takes into account england and wales so the shortfall is likely closer to 200,000+
Literally a pyramid scheme. We should be aiming for quality, not quantity, as the vast majority of people, migrant or not, take out far more than they pay in over their lifetime, which is the root cause of our deficit/debt problem.
Slight glimmer of hope though, is that net migration is down by 400,000 in the year to March 2025.
“mainly fuels by immigration”
I am sorry but that’s bollocks. I am a migrant myself and I can say that the population of England and Wales was entirely fueled by immigration.
Why?
Because the population of “White British” meaning Welsh, Scottish, English, Manx, NI and Cornish has changed from
47.6 milion in 1991 to 44.4 milion in 2022.
That’s a decrease of 3.2 milion.
So logically, all of the growth was fueled by immigration (including immigrants having children).
Now I’m thick. I also don’t have a racist bone in my body but I don’t get this –
If you admit a lot of people into a country and not allow them to work and therefore are not able to tax them, how does a country pay for everything that they, and the “natives”, need for that country to operate?
This country is so far gone, not a fan of reform but might be the only party to actually sort out our absolutely ridiculous immigration problem
The irony is that the lack of affordable housing, quality of services and future quality of life is what’s driving me to consider moving away from the UK. I wonder how many people feel the same as me.
Is there anywhere decent for British people to emigrate to?
Fucking useless 90% of that could be alleviated if they just clamped down on visas
I feel we’ve been led down this path by correlating GDP with progress.
There’s nothing wrong with being a less wealthy nation. In fact, less wealthy European countries can have a much more positive life for their people. Wealth isn’t the be-all, end-all.
But, so committed to arbitrary economic data, we’ve lost sight that people want to live in accommodating communities. Now, we’re driving out the people we should be keeping, inviting those who contribute very little and take opportunities from nationals and the mood is grim.
Great stuff – can’t wait for the tax revenues from all these working-age male individuals to start flowing in.
Oh wait.
Currently on a three year working holiday visa in NZ, slightly bigger in size compared to the UK with a population of 5.3 million.
Whilst I knew from my holiday to NZ previously how quiet it would be compared to the UK, man what an eye opener living here truly is, traffic hardly exists, want to go and find peace and quiet just drive 20 minutes in any direction, if you can get a nice summers day you can actually go out somewhere and not worry about finding parking or it been so overcrowded it ruins the experience.
Of course there is some drawbacks, but I definitely felt like in England the increasing population came with no real tangible benefits to it, and it affects your general state of mind, even if I came back I’d be way more inclined to try and move to Scotland or Ireland than England now, it’s just not a nice type of lifestyle to live.
More mass immigration, more austerity. And you WILL like it.
Lots of people not reading artcile, and again Tory issue being framed as a Labour bashing again.
Up to June 2024, Labour took government afterwards, but don’t let facts get in way of your bias and prejudice.
Tories really took back control of the borders with Brexit, didn’t they?
