Just got charged 45€ for a journey from Santorini port to Santorini airport (a 20 min journey) and feeling pretty foolish to have agreed to the journey… Tip to self and fellow travellers – always ask for the meter to be on, even if they tell you it’s a fixed price!

I always use the bus in Santorini. I took a taxi only once and it was ages ago.

In the islands usually it is fixed price that you can ask even before the journey starts.

They split the islands into zones and there is a fixed price from zone to zone.

At least this is how it is in Rodos.

    4. >ΠΡΟΣΘΕΤΑ (13.00%): 30.71

meaning “extra charges (13% VAT)” for what exactly? Did you carry luggage with you?

    5. The problem is that people keep going to Santorini and Mykonos. When people stop going, then we might finally see changes.

From what I have searched, these are the prices from the Port to the airport and to the various areas 30-45 euros. After 12 at night is the night tariff. which is even more expensive. The cheapest is the KTEL up to 2.50 euros

    7. You were not scammed (the receipt is the first clue) they’re just super expensive. Santorini taxis do not do metered journeys afaik.

It’s fine airports have extra charges. From Santorini to Guadalajara. His net payment is about 40 euros

    9. Dude I’m all against taxi scammers but you got a receipt here which most likely means everything is valid. If you want to dispute it you have the evidence which is the receipt and you can go to the tourist police. Most likely you got a fixed charge due to the airport drive.
Furthermore it’s **not** okay to doxx the taxi driver. You got his licence plate, first and last name and SSN listed there and shared with everyone online.

    10. Dude you just doxxed maybe the only taxi driver in Greece that gave you a valid receipt.

Did you pre-negotiate the price? Did you order the taxi by phone or online? How many pieces of luggage did you carry?

According to this page, it’s possible to reach highest 45E if you pre-negotiate that amount: [https://www.welcomepickups.com/santorini/taxi/](https://www.welcomepickups.com/santorini/taxi/)

If you didn’t pre-negotiate the price and the meter was running, then you were scammed, yes:

      * In the receipt he has charged 30E as “extras”, but it’s too much. Extras are like 1E pickup from port, 4E arrival in airport terminal, 0.5E per piece of luggage. They can’t really reach 30E.

If so, this taxi driver tried to be clever and “scam you legally”. I suggest to send this receipt to the police. Click on “Cyclades” and find the relevant email address in this page: [https://www.astynomia.gr/contact-2/?lang=en](https://www.astynomia.gr/contact-2/?lang=en)

I’m sorry. I know someone who paid 50 euros to go from El Venizelos airport to Rafina port, which is like 10-15km, it made me very angry.

Unfortunately this is how it is with taxis in greece, I avoid them like the plague.

    15. Taxi drivers almost never give receipts. Or at least i have never got one after 25 years of living in Greece.

The fact that you got one, makes me think the charge was legit (why would he provide you a way to prove that you got scammed, when he could just do the “normal” thing and not give you a receipt?)

Not trying to imply that the price was logical, but you probably got extra charged for airport/port journey. In mykonos where things are similar, the bus services are cheap and decent! Perhaps you can ask around if this is the same in Santorini

Hate to say this but it sounds about right. A taxi from the airport to Ag. Parsskevi in Athens (20 minutes) is about 40 euros.

Cancel Greece, is a pseudo country! No doctors in islands, thieves everywhere. It’s a scam!

    18. FatefulDonkey on

As a greek I don’t understand this. How can the tax be double of the actual price?
