It must be very frustrating to give a really orthodox and measured view and have it presented in this controversial way. He’s not saying immigration is the problem per se he’s saying using it for economic growth when it doesn’t result in growth per capita is.
In the UK workforce it’s been 1 in 1 out in recent years not due to retirement but due to economic inactivity. So you bring in an immigrant to tax to not quite pay for a British worker who’s gone on long term sick, which doesn’t work, you just end up with more people using services that aren’t funded.

I wish these articles would actually give suggestions on how the problem can be solved, with a reasoned argument supported by evidence.
Every government wants less people claiming benefits, if it was easy to solve then it wouldn’t be a problem.
My personal choice would be to increase funding to the NHS, especially in mental health, so people get the care and support they need as quickly as possible and spend as little time signed off as possible. I suspect that wouldn’t be the Telegraphs first choice though.
