  1. “It’s just £46 to be registered, well frankly that’s not the point, it’s another £46 a landlord has to pay out.

The Government get a handsome return every year from the PRS *for doing absolutely nothing,* is it not time they actually partner with landlords and fund a national scheme of registration?”

Top comment on the article lmao

I’m gonna guess, us tenants are gonna see a 25% increase on our rent to accommodate this.
    Any excuse.

Nice, another charge that will be passed onto rental increases, that’s at least £25 a month to cover the expense in landlord terms.

“Another £46 pounds for tenants to find. So helpful these Labour initiatives. As it’s probably the last every Labour government heads down and try to survive to the other side.”

Hmmm. I thought it was charged to the landlord.

Oh, I see how this works now.

Landlords to increase rent by 100 pounds, so they can pay 40 in tax, 15 in fees and use the other 45 to cover this.

    Everyone to be shocked.

  6. Ugh why must the government make it so difficult for bastards to live off the hard work and wages of others? Bastards have rights too you know!

  7. £46?
That’ll force the landlords to increase rent by another £40 a month to cover the costs. They’ll literally have no choice!

  8. Any additional charges on the landlords gets passed onto tenants. The government know this and don’t care.

  9. An extra £46 per year for tenants?

Well, thanks to random BS admin charges I think we can all be very thankful for the extra £46 per month that we’ll end up paying…

  10. To those complaining about this, calling it a tax, may I remind you that nurses pay three times this to keep their registration valid.

They do that because keeping accurate records of these things costs money. If nurses (and other health professionals who pay similar fees) don’t get the state to pay for it why should landlords?

My borough already implemented a licence for all properties costing £680 for 5 years. HMO licence costs £1360. It’s an attempt to crack down on unsafe properties. I’m not sure this one will make any difference.

There really should be a department that goes round reviewing and fining these landlords for the poor state their rental properties are in.

There should be a limit on the amount of rent that can be charged per private floor space.

  13. They’ll see this as an opportunity to bump your rent up £46 a month instead. True entrepreneurs of our time – definitely not leeches.

  14. Nice of every gov to keep making property and rent prices surge with continued stupidity like this, just one more tax to bridge the deficit right?

This is the same logic Trump uses when he puts tariffs on countries. It’s not the Landlords that pay for these Charlie’s/taxes, it’s their he tenants.

  16. Why does everyone keep saying landlords will pass this on? Don’t landlords just charge as much rent for their property as the market will bear?

If pressed, some will deflect rent rises by pointing to rising bills, but in reality the only thing that matters is whether someone is willing to rent the property for a certain amount.

  17. Just like everything in society more and more regulation and tax. It all costs us the people actually doing stuff more

Ultimately, fucking pointless without the enforcement and auditing. All this really does is inflate the market by £46.

If you really want to sort the problem of rogue landlords out, then you need to punish negative behaviours and recoup costs of enforcement from them.

Let me guess, they *don’t* have to do an identity verification surveillance check.

  20. Inglorious555 on

That’ll be a £100 increase in rent for everyone

Landlords are the scum of the earth

  21. Which will be factored into rental prices. Only tenants pay landlord fees/taxes/fines

  22. Last_Till_2438 on

£46 which the government will waste and which will inevitably be passed on the tenants.

  23. 46 pounds. Activate landlord whinge setting.

Who am I kidding. It is permanently on, especially when considering any basic maintenance.

£46 to my rent bill then. When will we realise that being anti landlords pushes up rents and doesn’t improve anything
