Fusion energy is not only cheap, clean and limitless, it is also the “engine” that will drive the enormous increases in artificial intelligence (AI) that will be the ultimate super-weapon of this century. AI requires electricity — enormous amounts of it — that only fusion energy can generate cleanly, cheaply and in unlimited amounts.
If there were a formula for who will dominate the 21^(st) century, it would be: *Fusion Energy + AI = World Supremacy.*
Our nation, however, is now faced with a new and dangerous 21^(st) century threat.
China has been steamrolling ahead developing cheap, clean and limitless fusion energy to fuel the great new frontier of AI. Meanwhile, America appears stuck in the technology of soon-to-be-outdated fission energy.

While renewable energy drives whole sale prices of electricity to new lows the old extremely expensive high tech tries to remain relevant – despite becoming more uneconomical every day.

Some major assumptions here – if China get fusion working first that doesn’t mean they “own” it or that no-one else will get it working somewhere else.
Also – if you cut through the current insane level of AI hype we’re at right now, it’s not clear that is going to somehow result in “world supremacy” or even many of the other huge benefits being claimed / predicted.

Isn’t it so that China and CERN collaborate on that one?

Maybe we should specify that we can achieve fusion already to generate electricity. It’s net positive fusion we’re after.

Fluff piece by a far-right think tank posing as a policy center, with no grounding in fact or anything more than an attempt at fear mongering to push more federal money into mostly non-existent nuclear startups that will never be the answer to fusion.

I already consider Deepseek the best AI. Doesnt have narrow data limits like free GPT.

Why AI is the central point here? AI bubble is so big right now that even this gigantic step of having fusion power is treated as a “side” accomplishment.
If fusion power is finally a reality, a lot of problems will be solved almost instantly! AI is just an afterthought of potential, there are a lot of more cool and useful things that we would be able to do almost overnight with basically limitless and practically free energy

Fusion energy: whoever controls it, controls the world.
~~Fusion energy~~ AI: whoever controls it, controls the world.
~~AI~~ Quantum computing: whoever controls it, controls the world.
God help whoever has to compete against the country that figures out quantum computer-driven AI that is powered by fusion energy.

It seems like this sub has turned into nothing but a daily discourse on how this country or this researcher or this company is gonna revolutionize the world with fusion power. Nothing else seems to be discussed here, and everybody brings breathless news articles, most of which come not from actual news sources but from either paid PR groups or from fourth tier journals. I’ve had enough of leaving the group because it’s just pointless to continually every day rehash the same topic this isn’t the future. This is just mind numbing.

Well, won’t be the US. We have been graced with an administration that doesn’t believe in science or education. They rather just build a huge hamster wheel and make the poor people spin it for power instead. That’s just for the Ai data centers, you’ll have to find your own way of getting electricity at your house.
