  1. Why bother with protecting/maintaining the Earth when we can focus on two bodies that are savagely inhospitable to human life?

  2. Right because that makes complete fucking sense. Trying to find a new home for the elites to live, aren’t we?

  3. R-Dragon_Thunderzord on

And what are you going to need to do on Mars? Nothing to do with its climate I hope.

  4. Right, why focus on important, vital research that helps farmers and might possibly help humanity survive when we can indulge the fantasies of billionaires?

These people are too stupid to understand the consequences of their actions all they see is liberals wanting to stop climate change they don’t care about farmers relying on this data, fisherman relying on this data, shipping lanes, coastal planning the thousands of other things earth sciences does. Just sticking it to Libs

This what happens when idiots take over.

I’m actually starting to believe US won’t ever recover from this 4y term of Trump.

  7. Corrupt ignorant shortsided asshat.

The Earth is our only HABITAT.
The Climate effects every split second of our existence, our future, our food and water our economy, our health…..our survival.

DJT Administration is literally giving up the space sector to our foreign enemies.

  8. I could understand NASA moving away from this (“*National Aeronautics and Space Administration*” and climate science isn’t really space after all).

The problem is that as far as I know nobody else is picking up the slack. THIS is scandalous.

  9. Not that it seems to matter anymore, but he does not have the authority to Make that call. He has not been confirmed by the Senate, and even if he had, the legislature sets the funding priorities, including whether NASA should study climate. One more anti-democratic power grab.

ah yes, let’s not focus on the most unique planet in the entire galaxy, but instead on two wastelands that will never support life

  11. wtfozlolzrawrx3 on

Why would we knowingly refuse to learn about our impact on a planets biosphere? Is there some reason why that information would be offensive to an administration obsessed with drilling for oil?! Huh!?

  12. Good thing the climate on mars is not in need of understanding or adjustment or management

    Oh wait, shit

  13. “A dark age does not happen because there is no light. It happens because people refuse to see”.

What I think he’s really saying here, is, the earth is cooked let’s explore alternatives the wealth can be moved to, and fuck these scrubbers untill the earth is back on the menu.

  15. “Exploring” my ass. They either want to strip them of their resources(not entirely a bad thing) or build their little dark enlightenment colonies.

  16. TraditionalLaw7763 on

Who needs information on climate and weather patterns? Those pesky reports… Those coastal hurricanes will just go away once they find out they’re being ignored, amirite? /s

  17. ProfessorCagan on

Por que no los dos? Seriously, while I support off world exploration and colonization, Earth needs to remain a stable command center for such operations, people need to be able to survive in the Earth environment in order to do jobs that get us further to becoming an interplanetary species.

  18. p38-lightning on

Yeah, and your great-grandchildren will have to “move aside” to escape rising sea levels.

  19. And the MAGA assault on scientific knowledge continues.

I have never seen a group of people who are so terrified of facts and fact-checking.

I feel like I am one of the most unapologetically pro exploration for explorations sake of anyone I know. Like I firmly believe the only thing that made our species the way it is, is the drive to see the next land/space over there with our own eyes. BUT… this is just stupid as someone else already said climate goes so much farther beyond proving climate change exists but actively gives us more data on weather patterns that affect us daily. The other comment lists all the ways it directly impacts us, but I’ll just say again as someone who loves the exploration aspect of NASA this is one of the last things in their budget that justifies them as a anything but a purely scientific agency at this point and seems ripe for them to put NASA as a whole on the chopping block as not doing anything actually useful for the country and its just so sad to see. Sorry run on sentences its just so damn upsetting to see the prime example of American excellence in the 60s/70s fall into such disrepair.

  21. so then we are going to give NOAA the budget they need to develop Earth science satellites?

or are we just gonna let china eat that lunch too?

  22. This is part of the Project 2025 playbook. They will continue to chip away at earth sciences with the goal of not measuring the effects of climate change to protect the petroleum companies.

  23. kaptainkooleio on

A lot of people are upset and angry in this comment section over what’s happened… and that’s the point.

They relish in your pain because it brings them join, even at the cost of ten very earth we walk. A conservative will eat a shit sandwich if it means a liberal has to smell their breath.

  24. JungleJones4124 on

Got to love an acting administrator who doesn’t even know what NASA’s full mission is. Exploration is only one part.

    I can’t stand this man

  25. Yep, because climate and weather have absolutely no impact on launching rockets off the Florida coast…

  26. Shortbus_Playboy on

I wish stupidity was actually physically painful.

Maybe we could be rid of these idiots if that were the case.

  27. Raspberries-Are-Evil on

Fucking moron. Abosultely shameful how fast Trump has destroyed science.

I fully expect a new mission announcement to find Jesus in space.

  28. TheRealBuddhi on

Someone should explain to him how extra-planetary exploration is inextricably tied to climate science.

    I can’t even …

  29. Fourteen_Werewolves on

Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy has a marketing degree and a law degree that he used to get a job at his dad’s firm.

He was put as interim leader of NASA after the current admin fired the last guy and then found out they can’t make personnel cuts to the agency without someone in charge.

  30. I would be okay with this if NOAA took over that responsibility. That’s what’s going to happen, right? Right? RIGHT?

  31. Headlines like this are one of the many reasons my partner and I are perfectly content to have decided to not have kids. I mean, I am very scared for all of my friends kids, for my nieces and nephews, but at least I have some solace in knowing someone I created won’t suffer due to these fucking morons.

  32. This has nothing to do with exploring Mars and Moon.

This is project 2025 protecting fossil fuel companies. And that’s it.

  33. Translation: climate sciences are hurting my puppet masters income, so we’ll be focusing on finding new things to exploit for money elsewhere.
