      Forget Forget RPI, CPI or CPIH. The Tesco Meal deal price is the only real measure of inflation.

      “For Clubcard members, the cost of the popular lunchtime option will increase from £3.60 to £3.85, while the price without a Clubcard is rising from £4 to £4.25”.

      I had one today, a tuna baguette – cost me £5.50 which felt pretty steep.

      Tesco has the worst sandwich selection of all the big supermarkets. Asda has a surprisingly good selection. Co-op do the best sandwiches.

      Less than five years ago, when I was a Tesco employee, we could get a meal deal for £2.70…

      Oh… and it became £2.55 for the weekends after pay day (our discount was increased to 15%)

      I kinda like that meal deals and take aways are going up so much… it’s saving me a fortune now as it means I hardly eat out for lunch at work anymore!

      I swear it’s like a fiver at least in my shop now. Don’t they fuck you around by jacking the price up for anything other than Tesco own brand bread and butter sandwhich, ready salted crisps and a tiny can of Coke zero?

      Bruh I went to Tesco this morning after months of sainsbury’s and was pleasantly surprised by the price when comparing two 💀

      My locals still have a coffee machine that is included in the deal. As far as the drink goes it’s clearly the best value (unless you really fancy a water for the day and they have the 1L water included) especially as you can scan it for a Costa point at the same time too to get a free one in any normal cafe too.
      That way I look at it like getting either the meal or drink completely for free (only because a fresh coffee is usually about £3.50 anyway)

      I hate all this edging with the price. Sainsburys have done the same. Would rather they just rip off the plaster and make it £4 so I can get a clean 4 whole Nectar Points/Clubcard points at least.

      Jokes aside, at £3 the mid quality was justifiable for the fact you got a drink and snack that would tally up to £3 anyways, so may as well grab the sandwich. I don’t bother much with Meal Deals nowadays.

      I’m not going to be popular for saying this, but it’s cheaper and healthier to meal prep and bring your lunch in a reusable box. It also means less disposable plastic. Something like tuna and potato salad tastes better homemade than anything from the supermarket, and you don’t have to hand Tesco nearly £25 a week for the privilege.

      Depending on what you get, a meal deal can be decent value

      Coconut water is £2.50 on its own

      Bag of crisps say a quid on its own

      So that leaves a sandwich or whatever main costing pence

      Not sure why really, but this national obsession with supermarket meal deals gets on my nerves.

      The MD is no more than a couple price hikes away from losing its status of iconic British lunch option. That’s partly because it gentrified too much over the years, including fancy options that probably shouldn’t have been there. Once you throw in multifruit smoothies, exotic fruit pots, freshly made coffees etc, clearly that can’t remain below £4 for long. They should have kept the choice limited to a few frugal options to keep the price low, at least at the lower tier – most supermarket already have a £5 tier. I guess the plan is probably to make £5 the lower tier and to bring the upper tier above £8.

      £3.85 for a sandwich, snack and a drink actually seems like a good deal in todays economy. I paid more for a coffee the other day…

      What’s worse is I notice the single drink bottles are crazy priced, I guess in the hope of you seeing it’s part of a meal deal and parting with an extra £1 or £2 to get the deal. £2 for a 500ml bottle of Fanta or £1.50 extra and get a sandwich and snack?

      It’s scummy but effective as I’ve given in and got a meal deal I haven’t wanted a few times when being thirsty this summer just as I felt otherwise I was being “ripped off”

      As long as I can still get a Costa, a choc croissant and a tub of fruit for that, I won’t complain too much

      Am I the only one who thinks it’s still pretty reasonable? Meal deals have always been cheap and we’re lucky to even have them. They’re barely a concept in any other country.

      It’s pretty good value for a sandwich/pasta/salad, snack and a drink. Especially when you look at their price individually etc. I also just enjoy the convenience, I’m too lazy to meal prep.
