Oh look, the worlds most expensive fireworks factory.

So… does anybody know what mass-production of rockets is for when space agencies lose funding?
It ain’t space, Baby.
Rockets that can go into space can launch missiles with heavy payloads to the other side of the globe.

Looks interesting.
But from this angle, it feels like I’m playing that level in Watch Dogs 2 where you have to mess with the rocket.

Only years behind schedule. I’m sure it won’t be a giant boondoggle that goes nowhere. 🙄

I’m sure this is going to be another very good comment section with people who are surely interested in space and rocketry.

I remember the time when people thought SpaceX could never produce more than one Starship per year.
Also look how shiny the metal is!

Industrial mass production of… something yet to work properly. Hmn.

Someday in the not tood distant future, Florida will also churn out ships and boosters at scale. I’m excited to see this all come together.

Reminds me of how Boeing began serial production of 787s before the flight test program was complete and then OOPS the wing-body join cracked.

Elon is like a rich kid in meander-lands.
Creates Tesla, first well known somewhat affordable electric cars, good stuff.
Then goes totally out of hand with some cybertruck and self driving bullshitt.
Then SpaceX, Falcon9, good stuff, self landing boosters, efficiency and science.
Then goes totally ballox with starlink and starship… for what?
Take your money and go do something better with it!

I just read that this factory is intended to produce one starship a DAY. What in the name of Newton do we need with that many rockets of this size?
greenmachine11235 on
I don’t think starship qualifies as mass production. They’re still actively iterating and making design changes, mass production is producing the same item over and over.

Oh! Look at a factory making steel cones. Wow!

~10 tanker launches + 1 demonstration flight +1 HLS required by mid-2027 for Artemis III. And I suppose one successful orbital test launch would be nice, too. We’ll see…

I would be assuming these are not mass production but rapid prototypes, there is a significant difference there in terminology.
I’m no Musk fan, but I want to give credit where it’s due, the rapid prototypes is an interesting and entertaining way of doing rocketry, I hope they get a successful launch to orbit and return/recovery soon.
DOSFS on
I think it isn’t? The design isn’t set and stone yet.
It would be really stupid if the next test invalidated some design and they have to throw it all out if they’re massproduce right now.

They’ve yet to keep them from exploding, so there’s no actual production yet.
Pad boomers – those “ships” tend to be used to test pad integrity
“Oh look, nazi helmets” – funny how space nerds support nazism
We have different definitions of “mass produced”
Damn, they’re building them even faster than he can blow them up!
Launch 1. Boom
Launch 2. Boom
Launch 3: rocket being manufactured
