> With simmering political tensions and persistent economic uncertainty, many Americans are quietly buying their way out, specifically to the Caribbean.
> Five tropical island nations in the region offer so-called “golden passports” or Citizenship-by-Investment (CBI) programs, and these have seen a recent surge in demand from U.S. clients. CBI programs offer a legal pathway for global investors to acquire a second passport in exchange for an economic contribution to the host country.
> The contribution can be as low as **$130,000 in some tropical destinations**, but **up to $230,000 plus** in others, usually in the form of a donation **or a qualifying real estate investment**.

> British immigration consulting agency Henley & Partners has observed a similar uptick. **Inquiries about golden passports from the U.S. jumped 182% year over year in the first quarter of 2025.**
> The ongoing boom is one of many signals that Americans are growing increasingly uneasy about the nation’s political and economic future. But the trend raises an important question: is a second passport really a smart hedge or an expensive mistake?
> For many applicants, dual citizenship offers tax, legal, and travel-related benefits **that justify the six-figure cost**. But for some — especially U.S. citizens — the primary benefit is what Global X describes as “**geopolitical insurance**.”

My partner and I have been looking at this very thing ourselves. It’s dark times in America, and the descent into authoritarian fascism, economic collapse and persecution is happening fast and hard.

How stable are these Caribbean countries going to be if the USA goes bad? The entire western hemisphere is basically the US’s vassals. If we go down, they’re going to struggle and I don’t think the population will look kindly on rich American ex-pats.

All things considered, $130K for lifetime health insurance is a pretty good deal if you don’t have an employer-subsidized plan. And even then, what is covered continues to get worse and worse each year (looking right at you, United Health).

Pretty sweet deal: loot the country and escape to a place where they already hid their assets and wealth.
I would say that we shouldn’t let these parasites into our or any society, but they already don’t. Gated community or different country, same thing.

I would think buying 200k in bitcoin might prove to be a better move than a passport. Because then you can move to Antigua with 200+ million after it rallies

You would probably be better off going first world, preferably on the lower end of reliance on fascist Amerika. It’s all well and good to have a convenient small country that needs your money, but what if Amerika doesn’t like that you took your money with you and invades St. Wherever Island or demands you be turned over to be sent to ze camps or else? Go somewhere with power and allies.
Just do it farrrr in advance. Many Turkish people of means waited too late and were trapped forever after Erdogan crackdowns.
The situation cannot be fixed in the US so don’t be a moron and hope like a dope. Damned near every day of this century has been worse than the day before it politically. The unlimited hidden donor political spending and 24/7 state regime media channels ensure nothing can ever be fixed or reformed and that things can only worsen particularly as it only takes one fascist/corrupt compromised party to kill a republic forever and the R party cannot ever reform because the voters can’t imagine a universe where it should. Im a low level attorney lobbyist btw, though for the good lobbies that fought this and were exiled away from congress forever by the screaming money. In a way that never happened before 2000. I would leave with family if I had more means like local friends who are in Germany.
