If you stand in front of a mirror and say ‘Purple Aki’ three times, he reappears!

He was clearly an odd one, although it was never massively clear to me how much of the stuff attributed to him was really him, or even really happened, given that the police clearly targeted him.

“A spokesman for Merseyside Police said: “We can confirm that emergency services were in the Toxteth area following a non-suspicious death last night, Tuesday, August 26.

He was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.”

I’m not sure why they added the “sadly” when he contributed to a kid killing themselves.

He corned me outside JD Sports and kept trying to ask me to lift him up and squat with him on my shoulders. Very strange man

For decades, school yards across the region have rung with the bellows of children screeching “Purple Aki’s gonna get ya!”

Most kids being blissfully unaware of his actual existence, assuming he was nothing more than childhood lore.

I don’t think people are aware of the absolute chokehold this guy had over the region, he reached mythical status.

  6. Why do I have a feeling that the death of Purple Aki is going to become something of a strange, watershed moment that people will look back on in 10 years time just like when Harambe died?

“Things were going ok, until Purple Aki died.”

  7. If there was a league table of dubious British local oddballs (which there should be), he’d definitely be up there. I live in Glasgow and even I know his lore, and we’ve got enough local nutters to form a naval fleet.

  8. Damn he never even made it to 69 .

He’s groping Harambie and Andre the giant in Heaven now

The reach of this guy was insane. I mean I’m from a tiny hamlet in the South East and somehow people had heard of him. Legendary, for all the wrong reasons.

What did he do for a living? It’s hard to imagine him doing anything normal.

  12. I remember him. He was in the area where I’m from for years. He had hand like shovels. He used to get on people’s backs while feeling there muscles.
