    Makes sense considering this was the time the entire population of Georgia was ~800,000 due to a spread of the plague (source: geography textbook)

    Pretty sure Tbilisi had more Armenians than Yerevan at the time. Most of our authors and writers were based there, it was a major cultural center

    It is clear that this is because in 1795 the Persian Shah devastated Tbilisi and massacred the entire Georgian population, but did not touch the Armenians, since they were considered subjects of the Shah. For example, until 1917, out of 47 mayors of Tbilisi, 45 were Armenians. Georgians became more than 50% of the city’s population only after 1970 (according to the Soviet census).
