Workers wanted: Depopulation threatens Japan’s farms

Japan is suffering shrinking population for the foreseeable future. How they will try make farming job enticing enough is not going to be easy.

Pays well if you can leverage the land and choose a desirable crop. For example, strawberries in winter, watermelon in summer, rice and nagaimo in the fall. No reason not to make near 10,000,000 yen for your efforts. To be clear however, very hard work, with periods of waking before dawn or 12 hour days. In spite of this, people who live the outdoors and the touch of soil on your hands, ideal.

Personally, I spent a year working on a dairy farm near Matsumoto(where I live with my family), it was difficult waking at 5:00 every morning, especially in winter. But the perks: bi-weekly drinking parties at various restaurants and bars, entirely paid by the owner. Able to take home milk from the morning or evening milking, delicious. Lunch and breakfast served daily. Essentially able to save nearly 70% of take home pay.
