An unusual coronal hole appeared on the sun this week, as seen in these images from NOAA's GOES-19 Solar Ultraviolet Imager. Since this feature was so persistent, it will be interesting to see if it is still there when this region rotates around into view again.

I am imagining gargantuan projecting loops joining the two wings of the butterfly.
A butterfly flaps its wings on the other side of the sun, and we all fucking die.
– first pic: sufficiently fascinating. even worth a “hmm”
– second pic: terrifying seeing it “aimed” directly at us
Are we entirely sure that this isn’t a cosmic sized spot light for space Commisioner Gordon to summon Butterflyman?
I wonder how deep it is? Is this the first time we have been able to see this far into the sun?
I mean, i would’ve seen it as Jean Grey from X-Men, but that’s me.
