I live in Edinburgh and know people who work for Blackrock – they have an awful culture of high pressure – not the kind of jobs you want.

Assuming this is just some sort of deal to sell all of our flesh and souls to Palantir so we can be blended into a fine paste and used to power some AI data center somewhere in Columbus Ohio

Anyone who knows BlackRock and venture capitalist run tech companies should be warning how these people don’t come and make deals unless it’s really in it for them. They set to gain way more than we do.
More importantly we should keep the likes of BlackRock as far away as possible, they will break the country to make profit, they will buy up houses in a town and make everyone’s rent higher, make buying houses unaffordable. That’s the kind of shit they do to make money, when you have more money than governments you start fucking around with other countries to extract their wealth while leaving the inhabitants poor.

“London, US to sign multibillion-dollar tech deal during Trumps visit” – fixed the title.

The dream is for Trump to come over just for Starmer to tell him to F off.
Unfortunately it’s Starmer, so he is going to get on his knees and bow down to him

Meanwhile first generation immigrant Musk aligned to second-generation immigrant Trump calls via giant video screen (so “Nineteen Eighty Four”) for our Parliament to be dissolved. Labour MPs need to find the courage now to take back their party and spend 4 years trying to be a proper left-wing government instead of imitating Reform and the Conservatives. I think they’d be quite surprised by the support they’d get. Only Ed Davey to his credit is boycotting all this state visit nonsense. I’m English but lived in Wales for many years now and our children were all born here. I’m genuinely worried about the threat from Reform in next year’s Senedd election and intend to call out all these right wing lies. I also feel very strongly about the environment and AI worries me due to all these water-slurping massive data centres enabling people to email using AI and receive an AI-assisted reply back and we wonder why younger people are lacking social skills and confidence communicating. I’ll stop now as the list is long for this almost alternate reality of a world we appear to exist in recently…….

A 700 million investment from bloody BlackRock? This man is absolutely desperate for us to be even more of a US vassal state than we already are.
All we get from this is the jobs, while BlackRock gets to use the data centre to play rentier capitalism in the tech sector; further ensuring American corporate dominance in the global space. I’m sure they’ll also get preferential treatment in some form or another too.
I don’t think this government even remotely understands the danger of these huge multinational capital trusts. They spend so much money because it gives them an advantage over their competitors and lets them ignore market mechanisms; ideally, they just want a monopoly, and have the capital advantage to create one. You should not so easily let massive foreign companies take up the space in growing sectors, they will simply shuffle all the profit from that sector abroad, with that profit increasing over the years.
This is literally what we used to do to countries in the global south to exploit them and ensure dominance in the world economy. Now Starmer just openly welcomes the US so blatantly doing it here because he doesn’t understand anything and just thinks big number good.

This sort of thing (as well as our support of America’s crimes on the world stage) is the entire purpose of Starmer’s political project. He’s simply carrying on the legacy of Thatcher and Blair.

Looking at the government press release the headline here is some new jobs. [link](https://www.gov.uk/government/news/us-financial-giants-boost-uk-investments-and-jobs-across-london-edinburgh-belfast-and-manchester)
600 in Edinburgh for Black Rock
200 in Manchester for S&P global
