Dear readers,
Today I came across a portrait of General Henri Guisan, which struck me for both its composition and historical resonance. Only afterwards did I notice that the work dates from 1944. I am curious whether this is a print or an oil painting, and would be grateful if anyone could share further insights about its origin or context.

Haha, someone’s been at Kessler.
I guess it’s a print. The national museum refers this very picture to 1939.

I found this post from the Swiss National Museum blog. https://blog.nationalmuseum.ch/en/2021/06/photo-censorship-of-general-guisan/
It has this painting and states it’s from 1939. General Guisan was and still is a highly popular figure and therefore pictures of him have been heavily reproduced.
