    >Researchers planted saplings in soil that mimic those on the surface of the Moon and Mars and monitored how the plants develop over the course of several weeks.

    >The tea plants in lunar soil flourished taking root and growing as well as those planted in local soil. In contrast, saplings planted in a simulated Martian surface failed to grow.

Also a friendly reminder that Mars is an absolute shithole. I mean so is the Moon in terms of places to live, but Mars is possibly even worse on its own merits, and has the additional disadvantage of being 6-9 months (and a whole lot more money) away from Earth, rather than 3 days for the Moon.

You could even *terraform* the Moon easier than you could Mars (for a given insane scale of “easy”). If you could somehow get enough nitrogen and oxygen there to form a thick enough breathable atmosphere, it would last for up to thousands of years.

It is for these reasons that I cannot overstate how important it is for the billionaires to colonize Mars.

  2. Thank goodness. I couldn’t imagine traveling all that way without the prospect of a cup of tea at the end.

humans haven’t survived based on tea only. we need beer up there too.

jokes aside, it seems like the moon is so much easier for future expeditions and most likely resource extraction, but i usually see (well, saw, at least in my bubble) mars mentioned first. is there any other reason besides hype? like all the hype behind colonizing mars?

  4. Proposals for Chandrayaan – 5, also known as ‘Chaiyaan’, will be put shortly on the desk of PM following this monumental study!
