On September 22, 1993, a plane flying from Tbilisi to Sukhumi was shot down by Russian warships.
There were Georgian fighters and civilians on board. The pilot managed to land the burning plane at Sukhumi (Babushera) airport, but only a few of the more than 100 passengers on board survived.
