  1. The implication being made in the headline – that protesting the Israeli state is anti-semitic – is itself anti-semitic.

  2. When i first saw this my initial reaction was that it was pretty horrid of them not to cancel.

But if you think about it a little bit more…..

Why should we stop our right to protest against a genocide just because of a terrorist attack. Protesting against the genocide being committed by the government of Israel is not the same as protesting against the Jewish faith, indeed their are lots of Jews who join such demonstrations. The Daily Mail headline trying to conflate the two deserves to be called out

Why should we have our right to protest be disrupted because of a terrorist attack, i understand it in terms of stretching police resources obviously but it went ahead, clearly the police where able to cope. It was a pre-planned event, coordinated with other events around the country, lots of planning involved in that and the article doesn’t mention the time but i would imagine it would be difficult to cancel an event like that with just a few hours before it kicks off.

    Anyway….

Do we really want to live in a country where we don’t exercise our rights because of terrorists?

The march was a two hour walk away from the synagogue and was pre-organised. The march is also partially in protest of our government’s total silence and inaction about British citizens being illegally kidnapped by a foreign state.

I must say it really doesn’t sit well with me this idea people keep pushing that being against genocide is somehow an anti-Jewish stance. Antisemitism is real and is abhorrent, but criticising the actions of Israel is not that, and implying Jewish people = Israel (or vice versa) is offensive.

  4. Some of the most disingenuous framing I ever saw in my life. “Just miles” could be anything. RIP to those killed in the attack, free Palestine.

What a shocking headline and so inflammatory.

I have seen NOBODY supporting the attack at the synagogue. It is clearly terrorism and hope they find everyone responsible.

However democracy doesn’t end until they do. “Just miles” could be anywhere, and reading down it’s 3 miles away in central Manchester.

There is also not a Venn diagram of people here. Most people don’t support attacking religious buildings on their holy day AND don’t support a genocide. You can be against both.

To think even the mail are trying to use this as a wedge issue to inflame tensions is disgusting.

  6. Just miles… some cities that’s the difference between the city centre to the boundary of the Greenbelt lol

Good old Daily Mail, sticking steadfastly to the rule that if you want to post some made-up bullshit in your headline, just use a passive sentence.

  8. We really need to separate the Jewish faith and ethnicity from the state of Israel. Blaming British Jews for the actions of Israel is idiotic, equally trying to say criticising Israel in the midst of a genocide is anti-semitic is becoming a scapegoat.

If I was being cynical I would say they would do more good postponing it and doing some charity work quickly, giving the proceeds to the synagogue for rebuilding.

If I were being human I would say leave it this weekend. Whatever you do won’t stop the killing in Gaza. Pausing the march may lesson the hate here, where you live.

Either way, a march this close in time and location is a losing proposition.

  10. why would they not carry on?

unless the daily mail is doing 2 horrible things here:

    1. equating those engaging in legitimate peaceful protest with a random nutcase who attacked for reason we dont actually know yet.

    and:

    2. Equating opposition to Israeli action, with all jewish people which is antisemitic on the daily mail’s part.

  11. Is it possible to both not want kids to be blown to bits and starved and also not want terrorism? Why do we allow the media to draw these dividing lines?

  12. You’re not allowed to protest a genocide because something else disgusting has happened?

  13. If only this country gave as much of a fuck about other issues as it does about palestine..

  14. So the Daily Mail yet again is full of shit and is desperately trying to take attention away from mass child murder. Classy.

Did the headline get changed? Post is different is different from the headline.

  16. Inside_Performance32 on

Probably due to the fact they don’t care what happened or are actively celebrating it .

Bollocks. People are protesting the israel/palestine situation anyway.

This attack was vile and clearly antisemitic, but don’t drag people protesting Israel’s disgusting behaviour into this when it isn’t relevant
