    1. ‘bro trust me, just a bit more of russian gas bro i swear only one more agreement and a bit more gas and we have peace FOREVER, just let me get one more hit of that gas bro, please bro’

    2. As a German, literally everything she’s said after stepping down as chancellor has been insane. So sorry for this. I hope you know that the vast majority of Germans stand with you, unconditionally.

Any reliable source on that? No, DM is not a reliable one. Cannot see it reported in any other news outlets, sounds like ragebait.

    4. To ja sprawiłem że Putin chce spalić świat xddd to jest moja wina Polaka, który chce pokoju na świecie i dobrobytu dla wszystkich. Pani Angela przepraszam że istnieje

    5. Merkel is either literally ,, i can fix him” when it comes to russia or an agent of kgb

    6. Putin says we were responsible for WW2, Merkel says we were responsible for war in Ukraine, those two should definitely get a room.

    7. Jesus fricking Christ this women just wants to destroy Europe in the name of what? Keeping straight face or something? Did she ask Putin for advice?

    8. This is like saying ‘she said no to having coffee with him so he was right to rape her’ wtf

She is so brave, I wouldn’t not have courage to talk in public if fuck up so badly

I think there is an error, it should be Ангела Меркелова(Angela Merkelova) 🙃

    11. I am sure that building a gas pipeline between Germany and russia that bypasses Ukraine de-fact weakening it’s importance has nothing to do with putin feeling free to start a war with Ukraine, right?

    12. To be fair – this is taken out of the context by Hungarian media – read the interview. It’s not what she meant at all,.and I’m far from defending her but truth is truth.

This is what generally makes me sick of the world today. Media are manipulating everything(both sides of the barricade) and you have to do the investigation every time you read something as you don’t know what and how it was changed. And I don’t want to waste my life on doing that.

    13. well at least, we are all four of us , four (4) nations ..:):) and all on front line..

“Germany should be bombed every 50 years as a preventive measure, without giving any reason” – Winston Churchill

    15. When you actually read in other sources, what she reportedly said, it is much less sensational then this article claims. Don’t get me wrong, her opinion is very controversial, but this article is clickbait and bad journalism – very little information, no quotes from the original interview, no nuance at all, just very sensationalised summary.

Edit: The screenshot in the original post comes from Daily Mail which, as far as I know, is not known for quality journalism.

    16. Merkel didn’t “blame” the Baltics or Poland for starting the war. She said they opposed her 2021 idea for an EU-level direct-talks format with Putin. That’s it.

I’m very critical of Merkel and not a fan, but accuracy matters. She did **not** accuse the Baltic states or Poland.

      >

**Bottom line:** Opposing her diplomacy ≠ being blamed for starting a war. Clickbait is compressing “they didn’t back her format” into “they caused it.”

    17. ughh don’t get triggered by it peeps, there was no blaming. it’s a typical rage bait extrapolated title from a trashy conservative tabloid.
go to the interview, use tools to translate it and find out that…

      > In the interview, starting from [[10:36](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wjSHkSPUxRc&t=636)], Angela Merkel discusses her view on a unified European policy regarding Russia. She explains that in June 2021, she felt that Putin was not taking the Minsk agreement seriously, and therefore, she and President Macron sought a new format for the European Union to negotiate directly with Putin. However, some countries, especially the Baltic states and Poland, opposed this, fearing a lack of a common policy towards Russia. This initiative did not materialize before she left office and the war in Ukraine began. Merkel emphasizes the need for Europe to be better prepared for peace by building a credible deterrent force while also supporting Ukraine. She states that the goal is for Russia not to win the war and for Ukraine to remain a sovereign, free state.

    18. The only responsibility that we hold for that war, was not eliminating Russia earlier

Never ask a man his salary, a woman her age, and an East German where their dual loyalties are.

I don’t agree with her, but the post/new is also misleading. She did give blame for part not sole blame and it’s an important distinction. It also important to see/understand her viewpoint, albeit disagreeing with it. Her worldview ist particular and maybe one of the reasons why she might have been able to bridge eastern German views with western German views. A lot of eastern Germany has a pro Russian outlook (always had, historically) unlike Poland obviously. While Poland is more in favor of standing up to the bully (and maybe punching back), her strategy is more about finding and using synergies with the bully and maybe even leverage that for better or worse (somewhat similar to Trump actually, though it seems to change). I don’t think we know or see what approach works best. Obviously now everybody blames everything on her, fair point as the leader and ultimately the one who takes responsibility, but at the same time it’s often unjustified and weak and like the most common thing in politics once there was a change of power to which she probably held on longer than was good for her. Clearly there was also nothing gained with our current collective approach.

Out of all the capable women.. Germany gave the possible worsts… Frau Merkel und Frau Ursula.. Who needs enemies with such leaders?

Poland sincerely apologises for provoking Russia to invade Ukraine. We promise that this will not happen again.

/s ofc because some people might actually believe it

    23. They know that we are behind everything and steer the world. This needs to be contained. Operation “Bigos” is a go. I repeat, operation “Bigos” is a go.

    24. Merkel did not say that but was explicit on the topic 👉 the title is deliberately inaccurate.

I appreciate the commentary but not a single country is sending troops to Ukraine, 4.5 years in. Not Poland, not the Baltics, not Germany, not the USA 👉

‘The former German Chancellor claims Poland and the Baltic states blocked talks with Putin in 2021, contributing to the escalation in Ukraine.

Former Chancellor Angela Merkel blamed Poland and the Baltic States for indirectly contributing to Russia’s attack on Ukraine in an interview with Hungarian left-leaning, critical-of-the-government podcast Partizán.

Merkel stated in the interview that the German opposition in 2021 blocked an EU dialogue with Putin, which she had hoped would prevent escalation. Merkel also cited the COVID-19 pandemic as a factor, saying lack of face-to-face meetings hindered compromise.

Importantly, she also noted in the podcast “In June 2021, I felt that Putin was no longer taking the Minsk Agreement seriously, and that’s why I wanted a new format, where we would speak directly with Putin as the European Union.” However, this plan failed:

Some did not support it. These were primarily the Baltic States, but Poland was also against it.
These countries were “afraid” “that we would not have a common policy towards Russia,” the former Chancellor claimed.

She defended her Russia policy, arguing the Minsk Agreement had stabilized Ukraine.’

    25. Nice try, but thant won’t divert attention from her government financing that war via Baltic Pipe. We were warning them for a decade if not longer and we were ridiculed for that.
