  1. “Wait times for each clinic vary massively, from just three months in Nottingham, to 41 years in Belfast, and a staggering 224 years in Glasgow”

That’s mental, but Streeting endorses the Cass Report so nothing will change.

That’s so upsetting. Just a kid with no hope, and we could give her that so easy as a society. This is what people like Rowling want to happen.

It’d save the NHS money and resources to get rid of gender clinics and moved to informed consent for any over 18, btw. They’re wasting public money on being this shitty to trans people.

  4. What was she waiting for, a sex change operation? If so, why should that be a priority for the NHS, which is essentially funded by you and me, to save people’s lives from threatening medical conditions? As I see it, the NHS is failing across the board, it’s not just trans people that are being let down. I’m currently waiting years for an operation myself. If I could afford to go private I would.

  5. The bit that always got me about the debate around trans people in sports was how it ***totally*** misses this part of trans experience in the UK, and apparently no one raising that with the state of current care, the chances of a trans person with an interest in elite-level competitive sports actually being enabled to transition while they’re still at an age where this kind of career is still a realistic prospect are basically zero.

    Yup
I waited 2 months for my FIRST appointment after I said I have suicidal thoughts.

Have I not gone private… Fuck NHS mental help. It doesn’t exist.

  7. >Category: Suicide (from 2015)

She died in 2015 and we’re only just now getting this? Even in death the government is making her wait.

  8. So…the goal in the UK is to get rid of all of these clinics entirely and essentially ban trans people from participating in society.

When coroners are explaining that this is killing them…what then? We just accept these deaths as somehow worth it for not seeing trans people around us? Why?

It’s always left out of the conversation that the NHS intentionally draws out the assessment and treatment process which not only makes these waits even worse, but also causes genuine trauma (given that the ways it gets drawn out can be incredibly cruel). This is not simply yet another NHS funding issue (though that is a factor), it’s an issue of the NHS intentionally wasting resources to reduce the amount of people transitioning. There are some practitioners who do what they can to mitigate this, but they can only do so much.

I know right wingers and jk Rowling ignore this stuff but like we need to figure out a way to really include trans people into education, medical care and support while also taking into account the latest information as to health wellbeing and mental health outcomes for people transitioning.

Because some stuff is unbounded and difficult to categorise (what does non-binary actually mean biologically ) and I feel like people acting in good faith would Parse out the difference between linguistics, medical support for people to transform their body to what they more align with, and then gender recognition versus like how society would have to transform to accommodate that. As it’s a small amount of people transitioning but it’s going up as recognition and self recognition is going up

And I just think it’s such an emotive issue as it’s about not feeling comfortable in your own skin and wanting to be treated how you feel in your self perception.

For example, when treated at a hospital a doctor should be allowed to know instantly immediately and easily if someone is biologically male or female or intersex etc. Because it’s of material importance to treatment.

Does that information matter as much in the classroom? No unless it’s about sex education.

I just think it’s so emotional and issue and trans people are getting so deeply demonised by everyone as like a effigy to hang all their anger onto when they’re not also blaming immigrants for everything as well

We in a liberal society with British values should be able to do a wee bit better than this
