  1. Feels like a lot of 18-30 yo dudes weren’t taught to ride defensively and within their abilities

  2. Ok, so what’s up with the 20 guys (1.7%) admitted for “Obstetric and gynaecological devices?”

My take from this is not that motorcycles or bicycles are dangerous but that the risk of injury on a two wheeler is dramatically lower than falling off a ladder at work.

  4. So men get wrecked at work or doing work, attacked or involved with bikes.

Women are getting plastic surgery, falling off horses or having babies.

I’d like to see this broken down by age category, just to see whether men get smarter as they age. For the women, there might be four categories majority female in the 65+ cohort, mostly preventative care.

  6. Procreative management caught my eye. Vasectomies are usually out patient, so I’m assuming that’s the small percentage where something goes wrong, for males to be admitted?

  7. Wow, of the nearly 3 million people in the bottom sevens categories, not a single male incident recorded? Clearly there’s a such a recording bias present smh

  8. So what I’ve learned from this is I should get a motorcyclist wife who will get me (a male) pregnant. That way we avoid the most amount of injuries.

The most shocking thing is that 90% of psychological admissions are women. How can this be? There are so many homeless men with severe mental issues that are hospitalized all the time.

  10. Can I assume the ‘obstetrics and gynecology” category for men has to do with birth defects? Or would that be under neonatal care, or something like that?

  11. I feel like there should be more categories that are closer to equal? Like car accidents? Or am I missing smt.

  12. Would love to see the similar items clumped into one category, to pull in other categories. All cyclist stuff lumped. All pregnancy stuff lumped. All work injuries lumped.

  13. Really feels like the graph should be sorted by number of admissions rather than most male to least male admissions, but that wouldn’t make it “beautiful”, merely much more useful.

  14. It would be interesting to also have a list of the categories where the gender discrepancy is not relevant, I suspect they will be mostly illnesses but it would be interesting to see if, as a silly example, boating accidents are gender neutral.

Also, the number of people admitted due to pregnancy monitoring (basically the two lower items) is a sobering reminder that pregnancy is NOT an easy thing for many, many women, even with modern medicine. I see a lot of folks (men and women alike) downplay the risks when someone brings them up as a reason to not have kids, but they are very real. I almost lost a good friend to a regular pregnancy that suddenly turned problematic, and my own birth was a “cesarean now or you both die” kind of situation.

  15. Surely sports related injuries would be on the list from Sunday league football, rugby etc..

  16. How come women get tagged for all the pregnancy ones but men don’t go in for their prostates?

  17. Oh, this is limited to when it’s over 80% one gender. I think that needs to be a lot bigger on the chart otherwise it gives people ideas.

I wonder what it looks like if you exclude the pregnancy/reproductive ones since that’s like … All but 5 of them for the women.

Seems the mens reasons fall into 2 categories. Accident while doing something and being attacked.

Great time to be a motorcyclist 😂 I’ll ride with this in mind to work tomorrow.

  20. It’d be a lot more interesting if the graph excluded stuff that is sex-specific like pregnancy, to see what the actual behavioural risk factors are.

  21. I would prefer this infographic sorted by the total admissions figures on the far right, personally.

  22. It seems if men stopped fucking about on or near machines so much it would save the NHS a fortune lol

The only thing I’m getting out of this is that biker dudes are the male equivalent of horse girls
