I think it’s absolutely criminal that we’re not continuing to exploit this resource. We’ll still need oil and gas for some decades and it’s better if it’s done within our own ‘shores’ as it were where safety and environmental standards are higher, providing skilled jobs and resilience to our supply chains.

For the sake of global warming we should ignore it and continue to import it from other countries.

Time to set up that sovereign wealth fund that they should have done in the eighties instead of thatcher selling it all off to buy tax cuts for her rich cronies.
Like what Norway did that’s now worth trillions.

So we will set up a sovereign wealth fund this time to benefit the entire country right… right

Let me guess it’s completely uneconomical to extract and all of the comments in here about a sovereign wealth fund or using that oil are complete pie in the sky shite

  7. Prospective resources in mapped leads and prospects: 4.6 billion boe, up 31 percent from 3.5 billion boe at end 2023.

That 1.1 billion increase reflects updated mapping and licensing, not new discoveries.

How much is that compared to global supply. Like how long would it last if it was being tapped today?

We should leave it untill we need it. Granted it isn’t that much anyway, but in 50 years i bet it would be worth alot more.

Why do i feel like this will exclusively be a bad thing and cost brits money rather than improve anything?

I read a news report implying that OPEC+ are trying to kill the shale oil industry in the US by lowering the price of oil. Isn’t that one of the real limitations here?

Shame we will never be able to exploit it because we are hell bent on this net zero mission

No doubt Westminster will continue giving tax breaks instead of making a wealth fund. I remember when Better Together said the oil was a negative, and was running out. Lying sacks of shit.

Too much greed, corruption, ownership of media and lobbying in the uk for anything to ever be done to benefit the general population.

Anyone who takes prospective resources seriously is showing they don’t understand the exploration business.

We should just leave it. It’s ours, it’s not going anywhere, and we don’t need it. We’re not short on oil are we.

Oh right, is that the oil we were told was running out before the Scottish referendum 👊

  18. What’s derived from oil is very important, along with the employment, higher paid, high skilled jobs NI & tax paid into the exchequer. Yes wind, solar, nuclear and hydrogen are cleaner but can’t function without what’s derived from oil in their functioning operations. We are getting there too slowly for some but we are working it out.

Global oil production is like 100M barrels per day. We can power the World for another 10 days
