It would probably be a better idea for this woman to have kids than the ones who just go ahead and have 12 kids without caring about the aftermath.

These sort of stories depress me and I know lots of people in the same boat.
God help the next generations to follow.

And unless this mess is sorted out, fertility rates are going to continue to decrease and our population is going to age at a faster rate, which is not a good thing for anyone involved.

Sensible decision. Affordability tests should be enforced on all prospective parents to stop them from becoming a drain on the tax payer. Hopefully she gets a job with better income so she can start planning for a family.

There was a story here recently about an immigrant family from Afghanistan with 13-14 children demanding a bigger house in London since they didn’t all fit. You tend to notice that certain demographics seem to have a complete and utter disregard for the financial responsibilities of having children in favour of having as many as possible.

Haha. So naive. Have 3 children. You will give them £300 so they shut the hell up.

I put off starting a family because of Brexit uncertainty and I can’t say I regret my decision considering everything that’s followed. I’d rather remain childfree.

Surely the real issue is the lack of rent control which allows 25% rate rises in a single year? No fault evictions should have been scrapped a long time ago but the reliance on private renting is a consequence of dwindling social housing stock, not enough houses overall and too many people fighting over too few resources.

Have the kid, get the council to sort you out a house with adequate number of bedrooms. Problem solved.

I am quite annoyed at the statement near the end going “women more affected than men” and the usual “women earn less than men”
My rental life as a man included being intimidated by landlord to pay another tenants debt because I was from a benefit background and the other guy was middle class therefore he was paying my way anyway.
Halls of residence billing me after I moved out despite someone moving in same day because they refused to accept my notice period.
Illegally evicted by a landlord who never did repairs, the building had a history of people breaking in I had all my possessions stolen by the same junkies who broke in multiple times a year, the same landlord tried getting my friend done for fraud after friend started work after being on Jobseekers and told the housing but they continued paying rent to LL and the LL claimed he “didn’t know” friend was working nor was friend paying him, friend luckily had copies of cheque to prove it.
Landlord renting me a place that was full of dirt and said if I cleaned it he would give me a free months rent, it never happened it cost me £70 to clean and about a week, same landlord tried illegally evicting me by force with his 2 sons the mould was so bad in there that me and my flatmate pretty much had permanent colds and the walls were covered in water and leaks coming into one of the bedrooms.
2 more illegal evictions one even left treats of violence on the phone and Police didn’t care,
Moved in next to a drug dealer and had people steal all my post for the 3 years I lived there, had the dealers clients do bodily functions outside my door, identity theft, oh and there was a leaking roof for 2 years LL refused to fix and crumbling walls, he then claimed I did over £2000 in damage when I left.
Moved into a property that the furniture was 15-20 years old, cost more than elsewhere but he was only person who took on benefit claimaints that I could find, the light bulbs in 2 rooms literally kept exploding and he refused to get the electrics checked, when I moved he tried billing me to replace every item of furniture and white goods in the property, new flooring, paint every wall etc
Then moved somewhere cheap that was ok until the ceiling in bathroom collapse and was full of mould and mushrooms LL refused to get it cleaned and told me to do it myself and said the property was livable enviromental health said it was at the point where it was livable and no more but recommending staying elsewhere.

Both men and women need to realise they’re stood on a burning platform.

It’s insane how much rent rates go up. Always under the justification of other local rent rates going up.

Imagine if such whinging annoying people had a voice back even a hundred years ago. If that’s what is stopping you from having children then you’re not supposed to have them. Imagine if people didn’t have children back in history just because they were poor. We’d not have anyone.
Just because people are educated doesn’t make them smart it seems.

Classic antinatalist propaganda, the article is pointless if she doesn’t disclose what’s their household income and were they want to live.

The government has caused this..
More tax and restriction on landlords means higher rents and less available property on the rental market. It’s just not profitable now, and many landlords lose money from it all. This means either making the rent extortionate to break even, or sell the property and cut looses.
