Wonder if that’ll hold once the Andrew situation is resolved. Probably depends to some extent the manner in which it is eventually resolved.

I don’t think the monarchy are a pressing issue. Removing them would be complicated in my view and what would we call ourselves? The UR? What we do need to do is make sure they aren’t above the law and Andy Pandy is punished. Apart from that however, I don’t see why we need to remove them or why it matters

I used to be someone who supported the monarchy until a couple of years ago. They do strike me more out of touch than they used to be. Not paying any inheritance tax, making people redundant as soon as you get in and signing off Andrew wearing a uniform and not Harry at the funeral are all things that don’t sit well.
In my opinion there seems to be less emphasis on charity work particularly charities that are helping the poorest. Certain individuals are also not pulling their weight. There is a reason why Princess Anne is so loved. They need to get their hands dirty more.

In my younger days I was very anti-monarchy. But now 1) we have much more pressing things to deal with. 2) some of the most equal societies in the world are monarchies indicating a monarch isn’t the problem. 3) I have seen what this country votes for if given the chance – in an alternate universe, President Boris Johnson exists and President Farage is waiting in the wings.
While Andrew is reprehensible, this family and their drama get used as a distraction from the genuine problems we have by the people who benefit from problems.

Part of the pressing issues are inequality and wealth disparity, which they are a huge icon for.
They’re outdated, and as much as I don’t hold so much revulsion for them as before, they could probably do with a little less of our country’s money funding their lavish lifestyles.
dewittless on
We should make it an option on the tax return. “Tick here to opt out of the royal family”. Reduce their tax funding appropriately. Drops below 80%, we take a castle. Make them earn it.

You can just see the Windsors scrambling around for a PR boon. Any of them still single so we can have a royal wedding? Can Kate get pregnant again? Can George graciously donate a kidney to save a dying child?

They’re there as a tourist novelty. Whether you love them or hate them, they bring in tourism business which is what you want. I think that is likely greater economic value than having a president.

By the rules of brexit we should now exile the entire royal family to St. Helena.

One of the most baffling and contradicting opinions I’ve seen in the UK was the Brexit voters and their sayings of “We don’t want to be ruled by no unelected people from the EU”, while at the same time supporting the Royal Family.

The monarchy is like legacy code, it’s baffling, only a few people know how it works and they cost a fair bit to maintain it, you know one day you’ll have to tackle the issue, but it’s going to cost a fortune, your IT team is going to focus on nothing else for years, and there’s no guarantee the update will be any better.

It should be noted that while less than 50% support the monarchy, they are the plurality with those who oppose the monarchy being 39%

Good, get rid. If they could bow out graciously and we have a slow dissolve that would be perfect, every current royal would still have a cushy number and we would just free our children from the mascot of wealth inequality and nepotism

Slightly off topic but where are these polls. Every research project or study like this say 50% people think x.
But, nobody ever seen or done a survey where that question has been asked

Of course the poll would show that, Poland’s a republic

Alright, here’s some important facts.
This is not new. Any time Andrew ends up on the news and people are reminded of how the Royal Family hasn’t pushed him out, support shifts from support to don’t knows; the opposition hasn’t actually consistently grown by polling.
Second, there are a number of articles from small sites claiming this is for the first time. This is not true. It’s not even the first time for this polling company, that was January 2024. But by June this year the same polling company had support back up at 60%.
So what’s my point? If you’re a Republican or Anti-Monarchy and think this is a sign in the right direction, you’re getting your hopes up too early. If you’re interested in it from a news perspective, be careful what sites you look at. There’s a lot of false reporting on this from the sites handling it either downplaying it or pushing it, depending on the bias of the site.
Either they downplay it and push the idea that it’s nothing and that the trend isn’t clear evidence that people are angry at Andrew getting away with his actions, or they push it as a sign the monarchy is on it’s way out.

I had respect for the queen. Diana is and always will be fascinating.
I see no passion in the work that they do.
They’ve done nothing to protect Harry and Megan. I believe they have played the press. I think they’re ruthless.
I think William is probably a right nob.
Kate is just a nodding dog.
Do right by your son, your DIL and your grandchildren.

With all of the hate towards the King because of Islam alongside the Andrew issue… Did his mother get a lot of hate for that since I was not born when she visited a mosque?

Republics suck, I look at the French, the Italians the failed attempts at Spanish Republics, Trump. What came after the fall of the German monarchy. Just give us PR in Westminster and let the Royals do there thing. The deal is fine. I like Japan, Scandinavia and the low countries.
I’ll be entirely honest at this point there is such a thing as to much democracy. Each vote breaks down society and whilst important to gage public opinion to an extent that is ethical and reasonable sometimes it goes too far and causes irreversible division. I draw the line, the past 10 years should be enough of a lesson.
I want no presidents in the UK, it would be PM2 boogaloo, to add also a senate instead of the lords would be just as bad just like the commons.
I wont excuse Andrew however he is a scumbag and the abuse of his position should be seen as treason, the abuse of such an office would have been in the past. Just exile him to some small island, I heard he likes them just make sure its on his own. Maybe Ascension would be apt.

The late Queen was highly respected in general.
Charles less so due his past history with the late Diana and Camilla.
The issues with Harry and Andrew aren’t helping matters either.
From discussions I have had with friends, the country wants a younger monarch and feel Charles should pass the crown to William.
