    1. Good. It’s absolutely fucking absurd that Shaheen could get blocked over a series of entirely innocuous tweets, a number of them from before she was even a Labour member, while someone like Luke Akehurst (who only a couple of months ago was spreading conspiracy theories about Palestinian ‘crisis actors’ and claiming the entire UN was anti-semitic) could be parachuted into a safe seat. It’s crystal clear this is an entirely ideological decision.

      Evergreen Tony Benn quote:

“If the Labour Party could be bullied or persuaded to denounce its Marxists, the media – having tasted blood – would demand next that it expelled all its Socialist and reunited the remaining Labour Party with the SDP to form a harmless alternative to the Conservatives, which could then be allowed to take office now and then when the Conservatives fell out of favour with the public. Thus British Capitalism, it is argued, will be made safe forever, and socialism would be squeezed of the National agenda. But if such a strategy were to succeed… it would in fact profoundly endanger British society. For it would open up the danger of a swing to the far-right, as we have seen in Europe over the last 50 years.” – Tony Benn

Shows how arrogant and self centred these people really are. The first proper chance the country has to remove the Tories and these lot are more worried about their own careers. Country first over party was one of the first thing Starmer said would change with Labour in charge.

    4. Nothing says ‘I want the Labour Party to win the next election’ more than going to the media at the start of campaigning because they’ve decided they don’t want you.

She can run as an independent and let the electorate decide.

So run as an independent, form a new socialist party, or conform to Labour Party policies. The only person deselecting Ms Shaheen is Ms Shaheen.

    6. I mean, I feel like this situation is very simple. Faiza Shaheen, who I hadn’t heard of until today, is actively working to derail the Labour election campaign by making a national news story of her personal desire to be selected as a candidate. This is detracting from the Labour effort to, you know, actually win the election. As such she’s proving that when things don’t go her way she’ll do whatever she can to bring the party into disrepute, and therefore isn’t a suitable candidate in the first place.

Tantrums like this need to stop, nobody is owed selection by a political party as their candidate and anyone who thinks going to the news to make their own party look bad to get their way isn’t someone we need in politics.

    7. Immediately knew we’d see the word “Islamophobia”.

This is the environment people like her have created. She’s been accused of Antisemitism for the tweets she’s liked which I agree is soft, but this is the consequence of endlessly accusing people of different cultures and/or religions of racism or whatever phobia should they disagree.

    8. I’m not sure what her case would be? Surely the Labour party can choose anyone they like as a candidate, for whatever reason they like?

She has the right to stand for election, I am not sure what right she has to demand that the Labour party support her.
