>The data shows no evidence to suggest that younger men are more inclined than other demographic groups to support the British far right. The difference in likelihood to vote for Reform UK between men and women remains statistically consistent across age groups.
Now I wonder why the media is pushing the idea that boys are coming out in droves to vote for the far right. Would it be to normalize it so as to get more votes?
JustChris40 on
That’s funny, the headlines are normally the opposite. How we should all be shitting ourselves over the “dangerous rise of far right extremism in young men”. Or how “Andrew tate has corrupted school children and made them swear at teachers, and fancy girls”.
What we can reasonably conclude is that no one writing headlines has any idea what they’re talking about.
Most young people haven’t got a clue what left and right wing are, haven’t got a clue what the culture war is, or that they’ve grown up normalised to the cesspit of it’s divisive idiocracy.

Can anyone actually tell me what is far right about reform other than they say they want to limit immigration?
Correct-Junket-1346 on
It’s why there’s such a divide in the country, more and more people are left facing but combine this with a right winged media that likes to only report on right wing subjects and you have your recipe for disaster.

Ok so young men are not voting reform.
The problem then is that they don’t vote for anyone.
Over 60s will all vote, more or less. Only a fraction of under 30s will bother. That’s the problem

According to who? No exaggeration, most people I know are voting either reform or advance uk. The election is going to be biblical and the vast majority of people on reddit are going to act shocked/suprised because reddit couldn’t be any further away from reality, as opposing views and opinions get removed or blocked.

As a pretty young (22) British man I know this sentiment rings mostly true. Speaking anecdotally, I know personally maybe 1 or 2 people my age who have gone down the Reform UK route. And those people were always thick as pig shit.
I see no need to pretend like the far right “have a point” because that’s a very slippery slope. They don’t. People on the far right are either very very easily tricked (aka they are thick) or they choose to believe the lies spewed by far right demagogues because it reinforces the world view they already hold (aka they are racist). Or both, I’ve not known many people I’d describe as both racist and intelligent. Bigotry and ignorance go hand in hand.
I think a lot of young men aren’t swayed by the far right because the far right are viewed as either just a bunch of racist old people or a bunch of saddo’s and thicko’s. And most young people don’t want to be seen as thick or racist. Because let’s be honest, the far right are all either thick or racist (or as I said earlier, both).
Let’s call a spade a spade shall we, the far right are losers.

What I find weird is that the immediate post war generations grew up on a diet of war films and commando comics where pluky brits beat the dastardly nazis. This spilled over into things like footy (1966) and comedy accents (Dad’s Army, Python, Fawlty Towers etc.).
I think those those people forget the fascism and just hated Germans in a pavlovian sense, ditto the French. They didn’t experience the actual war like their parents or grandparents did.

>Men are, on average, five percentage-points more likely than women to consider Reform UK.
>Both men and women are unlikely to vote for Reform UK, and the distributions of their self-reported voting intentions are markedly similar. In real terms, just over one in three men are inclined to consider voting for the British far right, whereas just under one in three women are inclined to do the same
>Among young respondents aged 18-25, a very comfortable majority of women reject Reform UK (75%), and a similarly large majority of men in the same age group share the same view (71%).
The article is primarily concerned with the gender difference, I’m surprised they seem so insistent that there is little difference, when a gap of 5 points (and consistent across all ages ranges) actually seems fairly significant.

What an utter fucking nonsense set of findings. First of all, younger generations have ALWAYS been more liberal compared to younger generations in every decade. People turn more conservative as they obtain responsibilities and realise their younger views were immature and idealistic.
Secondly, the article just talks about the far-right and Reform UK interchangeably. Reform UK are not “far right.”
Thirdly, yes – younger generations remain more leftie but that doesn’t mean there hasn’t been a shift in the demographics and there aren’t more younger people believing in right wing politics than there were 10-15 years ago.

As long as the left gives a space for male issues such as boys educational difficulties, male suicide, unemployment, lack government resources for men in terms of scholarships in universities then the far right wont be a threat.
The reason the right is there is because it doesnt sneer at male isaues like the left does. Because in a leftist ideology there are no male issues, we’re just angry male privilege is being eroded.
For me personally I see education as reversed where girls are advantaged, gaps where girls are behind are seen as a disgrace but when boys lag at all levels its seen as a good thing, boys are just lazy or losing privilege. When i think it looks lie boys have teir own unique difficulties. In universities i think its scandalous the amount of funds thrown at young women for scholarships and grants when theyre already the majority.
I see in schools boys telling the teacher who set up a class for boys that they’ve never heard the word “masculinity ” without “toxic” being before it . This is utterly disgusting to me , and makes me think what teachers are doing in the schools. Harkens back to Australia where boys were forced in an assembly to turn to a girl and apologise for male violence.- Girls nowadays go to workshops to learn confidence, networking, leadership while boys goto a class to learn how toxic they all are.
In criminal justice we see female privilege as in automatic lighter sentences for women for being women where even judges are quoted as saying “if you were a man I’d be sentencing you to prison” as they give a community order. Now we see feminists/leftists wanting womens prisons closed.
I think these issues are creating grievances inyoung men. I can see it myself, but as long as the left accepts there are problems boys and men are facing the right wont win. I think Trump in the US because the democrats went the “poor oppressed mens” route which feminism usually goes. The question is whether the left continues to uphold its “but but….men are the oppressors ” binary. That will push young males to the right if they feel hated by the left.
Currently the left is completely wrapped up in ideology. That one group is privileged, the other is oppressed. Eg. Boys are not helped in school because it conflicts with the leftist view that boys are male so they are the oppressor, therefore not an equity seeking group. Where if girls need help its seen as a protected group (female) behind so its no problem helping them. That is crippling the left politically as social issues are not that simple.
Downvote me, as you all will.
