  1. > So far, it has not been possible to reverse this negative trend in Switzerland and stop the increase in fatal accidents, according to a press release issued by the Swiss Council for Accident Prevention (BFU) on Tuesday.

In other words, we have tried nothing and we’re out of ideas.

  2. I find speeding in residential areas a huge issue as well as mobile phone use when driving, very frustrating to see. Also failure to stop at cross walks..

  3. Start by taking away the license of anyone on their phone and will be a great improvement.

  4. Honestly, doesn’t surprise me. I have no other choice than going to the office by car, and the amount of drivers that have abysmal skills is insane.

Probably aligns with the number of Swiss buying Tesla’s then having to scroll through 15 options on a touch screen to change the radio. If we know screens distract drivers, but then put a tablet in every car, don’t be surprised if accidents increase

  6. Well, it sucks of course but calling this a ‘Record number of fatalities on Swiss roads’ is just bad journalism.

  7. This doesn’t really paint a complete picture, they are comparing the numbers with 2019 – which was peak Covid and much less traffic. If you compared it to the previous year, 2018, it’s an increase of 7%.

This can partially be attributed to the huge increase in E-Bike use amongst +50 year olds, and the corresponding increase in fatalities for that age group.
