Context: I’ve rented a parking space in a garage on my residence and the spots are pretty small, I have a fence on one side and a neighbour on the other.
I’ve noticed that this neighbour kept parking super close to the line, especially considering that he has no one on the other side, so there’s plenty of space to open his drivers door.

At the beginning I thought that maybe it was lack of skill to park, my partner started always getting of the car before parking so we could save some space on the passenger’s door and I left him a note on the car asking if he could please just leave a bit more space for me to open the driver’s door, with friendliness and plenty of slimes, on that exact day, he parked over the line.
Since then that kept happening so I went knocking on his door and his wife told me he wasn’t home but she would relay him the message (i showed her pictures).
Sometimes I come to my car and find the side mirror in a different position, so maybe he hits it while parking?

I don’t know what to do, don’t want to be super confrontational but it’s super annoying and I’m not sure if there’s something I can do about it.
Any advice please?

Ps: This has been going on for some time, and I got a new car in the meantime so that’s why you see different cars in my space

  1. Just write the Verwaltung attached with a photo, asking them nicely to inform the other party about this. Et voilà.

Park on the right side of your spot and front-first. Like that you can easily get out and he has the problem.

I know your pain, I also have a small parking spot, and my neighbor has two parking spots beside me where he always used to park in the middle of both of them. He also uses it as storage space or something so he has some stuff on there. One or two months ago he started parking exactly on the parking line to my car instead, so that I have to be super careful and squeeze myself out of my door everytime I want to exit my car. No clue what the reason for this change is.
In your case I would ask whoever is renting you the parking space. Maybe you can get a better spot.

  4. OP is right. Fuck inconsiderate people who park like that.

Parking spots in Switzerland are tighter than a bird’s ass. So, no, parking “on the line” is not good enough if it can be avoided.

Just park the other way around and do the same. It’s really inconsiderate as he has no other parking on the other side. So he could get completely to the other side.

I have the same neighbour 😀 – but the parking places are swapped. Which is good:

I have started an education program now: I park my car at **exactly the same distance** from the middle line as he parked his car, plus ~5cm.

I usually come home later than him, so if he parks like in your picture, the next morning he will not be able to enter his car normally, because the driver’s door only opens 15cm. He’ll have to get into his car through the door on the right side.

After WEEKS of doing this, he is slooooowly becoming better at l parking his car now, but on some days he forgets about it, and needs to use the right door again.

    😈

  7. I’m staggered at the number of people here suggesting OP shouldn’t be annoyed. The BMW driver is within his own lines of course, but it’s just good courtesy to not park off-centre, especially not close to someone else’s driver’s door, and a neighbour at that. It’s a good example of spirit of the law vs letter of the law.

On your side mirrors being moved – I’d imagine it’s a passive aggressive act on their part, rather than them actually hitting you.

maybe the turn ratio is absolutely low or the garage is very “slim” for this car to pass through. I think it has something to do with the pole. Ask them politely why
