I profoundly apologize, but I feel like someone needs to say it out loud.

There’s thousands of comments calling up for dropping any kind of support for Ukraine. I just want to point it out — if Ukrainian government collapses, three things will follow in quick succession:

    1. Unstoppable wave of millions of refugees gonna flee towards Ukraine’s western borders. The only way to stop it would be bullets, so Polish army would be presented with a tough moral choice;
    2. The ones, who won’t flee, would be incorporated into Russian system. All men would be drafted.
    3. Russian army now reinforced with Ukrainian military might which includes all of the western equipment and home-grown weaponry will now be watching Przemysl through binoculars.

Hate Ukraine all you want, but believe me — Poland needs it.

    PS

Be aware of Russian bots in the comments: they would be easy to spot:

    – username is usually adjective-noun-number;

    – only a few month old;

    – heavily piggybacking on whataboutism.

Bots have a lot to do with this. I have seen a big surge of post against ukrainians, lithuanians, germans etc and coincidentally a sharp increase of pro russian comments.

    2. Frosty_Percentage989 on

Let’s be honest — some of those comments are obviously from Russian bots. But calling everyone who has even a slightly different opinion a Russian bot doesn’t help anything. And unfortunately, we have to be honest when talking about Polish–Ukrainian relations. The Ukrainian government and its recent actions haven’t made things easier, nor have the reports about Ukrainian citizens smuggling illegal migrants across the Belarusian border (I’ve seen three such articles recently), not to mention the UPA flags and the cult of Bandera.

Of course, I believe that Ukraine is a victim of imperialist Russia, and I wish it victory. However, our relations aren’t deteriorating solely because of Russian propaganda — part of the responsibility lies with the behavior of some Ukrainian citizens in Poland. I know that most of them are ordinary people who aren’t to blame for anything, but unfortunately, they also suffer because of the small minority that behaves in the ways mentioned above.

I’m not a bot, I swear, I made account with gmail and I didn’t get to set the username for some reason

But I’ve got to say, if someone is a bot, they probably have that type of username

    4. I mean, at this point Poland helps Ukraine only to keep Russians away from growing border with us. There’s always some natural instinct to help people in need(that’s just our nature), but despite the fact that I like many Ukrainians i feel like they’re abusing our hospitality.

    5. giordanopietrofiglio on

Replying to point one: Poland already has two hard borders, with Kaliningrad and Belarus, the scenario with soldiers shooting refugees is a bit dramatic.

Replying to point two: I’m not sure that drafting the enemy would be a great strategy but I don’t know

Replying to point three: as front lines move, equipment moves. also who thinks that Russia would attack Poland? Because I’ve never heard of anybody saying that.

That being said, yeah it’s in poland’s interest not to lose ukraine, but still, are they really at risk of collapse now?

    6. Thanks for support 🙏 every country has good and shitty people, but it doesn’t mean that any of them deserve to be in war. Fck russians.

    7. “There cannot be an independent Poland without an independent Ukraine” – Józef Piłsudski

    8. We live in times when certainty for tomorrow is the last thing we have and your fear is most valuable to the broadly understood authorities. You are the same as your beloved Russian bots, you are no different.

Please do not feel too confident, do not speak for Poles, even in this space friendly to your narrative, which is Reddit.

    9. AnattaInNikayas on

I’m honestly tired of all this. Poland has helped Ukraine more than anyone, and in return we see the cult of Bandera, no Volhynia exhumations, and zero gratitude. This isn’t our war — it’s America fighting Russia with Ukrainians as cannon fodder. We just want peace and for them to go home.

    10. Current-Ad-6488 on

      The most basic things…
      1. Russia wants to recreate their rotten empire via conquest, blood and terror; check Chechenya, Georgia, 2x Ukraine
      2. we are on their way too; check where Poland was when Russia was strong (Soviet Union, Tsarist Russia)
      3. Russia tries to isolate&blame its victims. If they cant make you love Russia, they will try to make you hate Ukraine, if they cant make you hate Ukraine, they will try to make you cynical symmetrist to blame both parts.
      4. Russia supports extremist&divisive movements and viewpoints in all of Europe; far right and far left movements whitewash russian nazi elites because things and USA bad
      5. Russia pays billions of billions money in propaganda. You think that 40% military budget year by year goes only for tanks and artillery? There is propaganda warfare too.

Ukraine kinda wants to defend their homeland and maybe reclaim lost territories since 2014. And as nation under attack from bigger bully, they just want some help. And they are people too, not heroes from the movie. And if they would be conquered, those 30+ mln people left will fuel russian industry of war. And all points 1-5 will happen on next targets. One day on us.

You fckin dont want it to happen no matter what.

    11. Ruzzian propaganda digging the Polish – Ukrainian divide is much older than the internet itself. And the perspective of unity of the two powerful nations who have been suffering from ruzzian war crimes and blodthirsty occupations makes putin puppets shit their pants. Any political force piggybacking on the kremlin discord narrative is in fact a treacherous clique posing a threat to the internal security of both States.

    12. There is some strange logic in your argument.

Historically, Ukraine nationalists did not want to be part of Poland. They preferred being part of the Soviet Union after the WW2. Someone on this forum went as far as to state that they were “founding members of USSR.” Obviously arguable but the point remains that Ukraine kicked out Polish people (to put it lightly) and spent their last two generations arguing they have their own, unrelated culture.

So the logic that they will now prefer to “run the border” en masse to live in Poland sounds counter intuitive. Why would you want to live in a country you spent the last two generations denying as a good place to live?

While there is no denying the insidious propaganda being spread on this forum, your take seems a bit FUDee as well. My gut feeling is that Ukrainians would remain in their country to continue their struggle for own identity, not unlike people in other places in the world under constant aggression.

    13. there’s never been a group of more entitled people than poles who are just oh so tired of other people fighting to defend them and not licking their asses for doing absolutely fuck all

    14. Apart-Apple-Red on

I won’t support Ukraine because if not, Ithere will be wave of Ukrainians coming. That’s a borderline blackmail.

I won’t support Ukraine as Ukraine isn’t friendly to Poland.

Ukrainians collapse brings Russia closer to Poland, but Ukrainians are not better.

    15. None normal would call for drop off support for Ukraine. But also none sane should ignore when Ukraine citizens in Poland use UPA flags, and have problem with admitting that nazi and upa are the same level. Please don’t be on the edge on any side.

    16. Bigcockrooster997 on

While I agree we should support Ukraine if they kill ruskies, but we don’t need to. They won’t attack us at all in next 10 years.

Anyway I wanted to say I don’t feel like it is appropriate for you Ukrainian to tell Poland what to do. This is for us to decide.

    17. I am not seeing the “thousands of comments” to be honest, maybe I am not on the internet enough.

Generally speaking anyone with a brain in Poland figures out that Ukraine is in the right in this conflict and should be supported and that Russia winning will not be the end of the story.

However I have to point out that:

      – the actions of the current Ukrainian administration often make it rather hard to be in their corner as a Pole ( case in point Volhynia massacre issue and their approach to it ), as they take the Polish support for granted.

      – actions of some Ukrainians in Poland have to be seen in the same light ( hint – nobody in Poland likes people running around with the black and red flag ),

      – You are not exactly making a great argument for the continuing support for Ukraine when you say “Western weapons you provided will be used against Przemyśl”, I mean come on my man, you’re shooting yourself in the foot here.

With that said people using braincells in Europe ( not just in Poland ) are rather aware that Putin will not be stopping in Ukraine if given the chance, so the choice to support Ukraine is an easy one at the moment.

Its nice to read this kind of post once in a while and remind yourself that some people out there are aware of whats going on …

But then u open tiktok and listen to what some other people around you say and you start feeling ill out of all that

Whataboutism is a valid criticism. No one is immune to it. Drop the whole holier-than-thou act

    20. ruzzia spends billions on propoganda and their main target is Poland because through Poland goes all the military help etc. But its funny how people fall for their propoganda while their propogandists are publicly talking abt nuking Poland, Germany, UK etc.

    21. ThatOneSovitrBoi on

as a pole everyone behind our eastern border can go fuck themselves for the near future.
im not even nationalist. poland is dogshit without wave of refugees taking jobs and housing which already is in short supply for young adults. anti ukraine thinking based from that IS NOT propaganda of either side.

      “solidarni z Ukrainą”
ohhhh, that’s a rare sight, it’s so heartwarming to see compassionate and kind attitude in Polish internet spaces nowadays

“The only way to stop millions of Ukrainian refugees would be with bullets, tough moral choice for the Polish army”
      what the actual fuck man…

P.S. I really hope that hundreds of people who upvote this post did NOT actually read the text under the photo because there’s nothing about real solidarity – just a question of self-interest and self-preservation (which is understandable in Poland’s case, but here it’s put together in truly horrible terms)

    23. Financial_Building_9 on

My attitude to Ukrainian struggles against  the Empire of Putin’s Evil is shifting towards “Enemy of my enemy is my friend”. Let me explain. I think Ukraine is not a friendly country to Poland due to glorification of genocidal murderes like Bandera and Suchaczewycz by its political class and praising UPA bandits and clear and obvious using Nazi symbols as emblems of some of their military units. Their arrogance is also insulting for Polish people. Anyway I really want to SUPPORT UKRAINIAN INDEPENDENCE from Russia because Russia is much much much worse for Poland than Ukraine. Let them worship Nazi collaborators. At least Ukraine will not invade Poland. Will not send dozens of illegal immigrants to storm Polish borders. Will not send jets to polish airspace. Will not threaten us with nukes or equivalent. Will not be jamming GPS. Doesn’t want to subjegate Poland as vassal state.

We dont have to view Ukraine as brotherly nation but by all means WE CAN COEXIST AND COOPERATE forvthe sake if DEFEATING COMMON ENEMY.

    24. 1. zelenskyy has the mentality of a smartass bazaar stall owner
      2. ungrateful to Poland despite Poland being nr1 provider of aid (not sure about now but I know we were)
      3. Zelenskyy 2 or 3 UPA/ Bandera museums in Ukraine and is openly Pro UPA despite being jewish
      3. even based on pure first hand experiences i’ve encountered a lot of ungratefulness from Ukrainian in all parts of Poland
      4. Afraid of exhumations
      5. Poland *literally* does not need Ukraine

      6. I don’t see an issue with aid for Ukraine but it should be conditional, why should we be funding the war efforts of a country which is so proud of its nazi-collaborating anti-polish and genocidal past both anti polish and antisemitic

ukrainian pride does not need to be synonymous with UPA and these evil men, i know for a fact there are better national role models

    25. Does anyone thought why so much hate for UA? First step for them is to stop waving black-red flag before our faces and deny their genocide. If this matter won’t be solved, then our fragile friendship, alliance wont last long.
