Are these prices on indomio.com.mt and maltaproperty.com standard or fake listings by agents to get calls in?
What’s the typical deposit and rental contract structure in Malta?
Is there anything you would warn long term renters against? Areas to avoid and why for instance?

Obviously fake. Anything in Mosta + 3 bed is minimum 1.5K +
Facebook is the tool in Malta. Go on marketplace, search what you’re looking for and filter “listed in the last 24 hours/7 days” to get real available listings. As for agencies I’ve found Remax to be professional
The apartment you showed is in Gozo. Unless you are going to be working in Gozo that is not likely what you want. Might be real, not familiar enough with rent in Gozo to be able to tell for sure. Not familiar with the sites listed. Most just use Facebook marketplace.
Typical deposit is 1 month of rent and if you go through an agent their fee is usually 50% of that plus VAT. You have to rent a place for at least 6 months minimum, after that you can leave with a 1 months notice.
If it’s in gozo then yeah its probably legit since prices there are lower, but then again its only worth it if you can find a good job in gozo.
In Malta? Those prices are definitely scams, for context i pay less in mortgage repayements towards my apartment, and I see prices on marketplace going for double that, while offering a room at most or an unmaintained shithole
Prices are for entire apartment or just one bedroom?
I live in Gozo and the Qala rent seems a little low for a 3 bed place – maybe €800 is more accurate.
But Qala is a quiet village, quite ‘far’ from the centre – so this could be accurate
Forget renting anything modern for less than €1,200. Gozo is a tad cheaper, but those prices are fake.
avoid renting long term, save that money and invest in property
