  1. Good, useless third rate politicians who needlessly interfered with policing. Setting pointless local priorities which were usually based on their own egos rather than combatting crime.

  2. 2024 PCC elections turnout:

Turnout (measured as valid votes as a proportion of the electorate) averaged 23.2% across the 35 PCC elections for which we able to collect electorate data. Turnout was on average higher in the English PCC elections (24%) compared to those in Wales (17%).

We did get some campaign leaflets when the elections were, only two of the candidates bothered to reply when I asked some policy questions from them. Since the election, I haven’t seen any news of what they have achieved.

I haven’t seen any real impact assessment of their usefulness either. I don’t think anyone except the politicians selected to the position will lose anything.

  3. No issue with this. Never liked the American model of institutions being headed up by elected officials – quickly becomes a party political thing. Our elected representatives and the government are there to hold these institutions to account, while letting them get on with the job they’re supposed to do.

Good. Was always going to be a white elephant. Policing should not be made political like in the US! Hardly anyone ever voted in the elections anyway. An utter waste of money and resources.

They’ve cost hundreds of thousands each every year and delivered nothing tangible. It wasn’t just their wages, they needed offices, support staff, equipment etc. All just wasted money.

  6. Good. They’re basically useless. Anyhow, police management should be politically independent. There’s enough political interference from Westminster as it is.

  7. Thank god.

Having a someone in charge of the police force’s priorities, who was also aligned to a political party, was so stupid. The police should be apolitical – always.

Good, political affiliation with law keeping was a stupid idea in the first place.

Jobs for the boys at best.

  9. Makes sense. Was only ever there to shift blame and maybe open up the UK to the kind of bullshit sheriffs do in the US.

Glad to say I spoiled every single ballot for this I ever received.

Good. Tremendous waste of money. Now get rid of elected
    Mayors

The only disappointing thing is that the moves some PCC made on uniform standards will probably be dropped

  11. Good. Hated that a political campaign PCC leaflet came with every council tax bill, saying what a bang up job they were doing and why they needed more money from me.

  12. At one time, locally, there was a young woman with no political affiliation elected to this position on a promise to ‘Do absolutely nothing and let the Police get on with their job.’ I’ve no idea if she still does it, or if she gets paid to do nowt, but it illustrates how pointless this position is.

  13. More than one has been involved in some sort of scandal directly or indirectly. It is not a job that seems to attract those with the sort of calibre you would want from someone in the role.

Good, spoiled my ballots of them in elections I could vote in. Do any research into the people that get in and you’ll probably see that they achieved absolutely nothing they said they would.

I doubt many people will be against it. Rather than hold police to account these roles have been used to excuse bad behaviour and general incompetence. At least that’s the case in South Wales.
