Well, I suppose that is good until the madman in charge of The States decides to randomly change his mind and raise it to 1000%.

I can assure you the most important thing in this agreement is to put CH more reliant on US, the US demanded all countries to deepen reliance on the US, for example its trade policy must be dictated by US trade policy such as who to trade with, who to avoid, etc ( less on Russia, China, even India), the CH is simply too small to fight back, mark my words and find out in the following days!

It seems like the supreme court might well restrict his magical super power of completely making up tariff rates instantly and based simply on his mood at any given moment. So he wants to lock in some “deals” just before he looses that. That’s why he suddenly “generously helped us lowering our tariffs”.
And we, unlike him, are gonna stand by our word of whatever crazy shit we must have just promised. Fucking idiots we are… If we had waited a week, it might have very well just gone away without any concessions needed at all.

People in this thread seem to have a general lack of the consequences of tariffs. Some are saying this will make us more dependent. It doesn’t. It does the opposite.
Not because of anything Switzerland and the Bundesrat is doing, but because what tariffs actually mean. Tariffs are a tax on one’s own consumers. And it will result in the U.S. being uncompetitive in many areas, therefore the market shrinking. And because of that, eventually the focus of companies will shift elsewhere.
And because of the the impulsive and reckless nature of the U.S., of U.S. policy nowadays, countries are already shifting away from the U.S. It’s a slow process, but it’s happening because of economics, not politics.
This is a pragmatic solution, with the Bundesrat having no effective way to enforce their side of the agreement, considering it is about reducing the trade surplus, which they can’t do. They can’t force anybody to buy American goods.
The U.S. is making itself irrelevant through all of its policies. It is a slow downfall, but it is happening. Companies and countries are shifting away from the U.S. And at the moment, the U.S. is still important and we still need it, therefore this is a good solution for that, but in the long run, we will all shift away to more dependable partners where policy does not depend on the whims of a senile old man.
