I find it interesting how this photo is so emblematic despite the fact that it was staged and excluded the people who actually raised the flag the first time round. And that the worst of the fighting on Iwo Jima was still to come (3 of the 6 on the photo were killed later on). I don’t know whether that makes it a better or worse representation of the war.
I guess Switzerland needs some staged photo of a second ascent of the Matterhorn or something
