Maybe an official Norwegian World Cup song will appear later (it would be about time), but there has been little writings in Swedish evening media about how the Norwegian national team after the match against Estonia played and sang along to a Swedish song in the frenzy afterwards… namely Petra Marklund’s ‘Händerna mot himlen’. You seem to like Swedish music. 😉
It made me think of Sweden’s World Cup song from the USA in 1994. We Swedes had thought of being able to reuse that song in this World Cup, but now we all know that Sweden (despite the fact that there is a last chance via the playoff spot that we got via the Nations League) probably won’t get there.
I mostly think about how Petter Northug likes to work with Sweden in a convivial and brotherly way. With him in mind, it would be crazy fun to hear a Norwegian version of "When we dig for gold in the USA". Not least because it’s a really nice song that deserves to be used again now that the WC is back in North America.
Finally: Cheers Norway. We may be rivals in skiing, but I’ll be rooting for you in football in 2026. It’s hard to dislike your national team right now, because you’re great to watch. It reminds me of Sweden during the period 2002-2006. May you do a Swedish 94 and get a medal. Which denomination is up to you.
