      this is cruel, vindictive policy. labour are turning us into a country i’m ashamed to call home, and it won’t win them a single vote because Reform can always promise to be crueller

      If Labour want to actually model what Denmark do as a society then just implementing their hardline immigration approach isn’t enough. They need to embrace social democratic values as well, so are they going to do that? Free education? Strong welfare state? Fully funded and working healthcare system? Great public infrastructure like affordable transport across the country? Doubt it.

      Serious question: What are they arriving with that could feasibly make a dent in the costs?

      Like I have to imagine that most are showing up empty handed – especially once this policy becomes common knowledge. Even the ones with jewellery, how much is a second hand gold ring that’s been in the sea going to sell for after the logistics and time cost of selling it are considered?

      Are we getting boatloads of old babushkas showing up with Faberge eggs?

      Maybe the confiscated goods could form an exhibit one day. Piles of shoes, clothes, etc. maybe they could be shaved too?

      Hopefully the costs incurred after arrival are treated as a loan to be repaid when they are allowed to work.

      Maybe the government could pry out any gold teeth or fillings, while they’re at it? Maybe render down any migrants who die to make soap?
