Hi, I would like to spend about 4-5 days in Tromso in late February, likely 27th of February – 2nd March 2026 to see northern lights. Is it likely to snow/still have snow at the time? I checked this website to check the weather in February (2025/2024) and it was over 0 (excluding night).
What I expect is maybe some advice from locals what weather to expect at this time of the year, so I could make a decision about going/not going.
From my previos research I am still likely to spot northern lights, but having no snow is still off-puting. I hoped to at least see some snow at this area, since it is rare sight these days 🙁
Summary: it may go above 0, but snow still stays strong! Thanks everybody once again!

Yes, February and March are some of the heaviest snow months in Tromsø, and also cold. We usually have snow until May.
I moved south four years ago but I don’t think things can have changed *that much* in that period. If there’s no snow on Tromsø in late February something is seriously wrong. It might not snow while you’re there and the temperatures may go above 0, but there’ll still be plenty of snow.
The snow does not disappear from Tromsø until April at the earliest.
