Yeah, let’s keep shutting down PFAS and microplastics studies because ‘EvErYtHiNg Is PoLlUtEd, JuSt DeAl WiTh It’. Let’s avoid real regulations because ‘We MiGhT lOsE jObS’ and stall ecological transition because ‘It’S tOo ExPeNsIvE’, so we can be the wealthiest ill people in Europe
I am 45 & recently tried to get a mammogram and I was refused, even if I paid out of pocket. While my notoriously shitty health system in my home country starts them at 40. (I really don’t understand why I can’t just pay if it will not be covered by insurance.)
My husband also would like to get a colonoscopy and was also refused @ 46.
The Swiss system needs to wake up & instead of providing senior citizens with large doses of unneeded Dafalgan, perhaps allow controls at younger ages, especially with family history of cancer, which both my husband and I have.
Smokers: iTs mY RiGhT!!!!!1!1!!!
Rising incidence of rising detection? The more/earlier you test, the more you detect, including cases that would have never developed into something clinically significant.
Some likely reasons:
* Exposure to air pollution and industrial chemicals from early life.
* Hormone-disrupting «forever chemicals» (PFAS) may affect breast cancer in particular.
* Screening detects more tumours earlier and records are better.
* Young adults consume more ultra-processed and fast foods.
* Diets often lack fibre, fruit and vegetables.
* Obesity and type 2 diabetes are appearing at an earlier stage in life.
* People are less active as many jobs and hobbies are sedentary.
* Alcohol consumption and smoking remain common among younger adults.
* Gut bacteria are changing due to diet and antibiotics.
* Frequent antibiotic use in childhood may increase the risk of health problems later in life.
* Strong sunlight and sunbeds increase the risk of skin cancer in young people.
* Pregnancy is often delayed, and breastfeeding is often shorter, which raises the risk of breast cancer.
* Night shifts and poor sleep can disrupt hormones and immunity.
(Most experts believe that many small exposures across a lifetime add up.)

They need to lower the ages for screenings. Mammograms and colonoscopies are still being recommended for ages 50+. When are they going to adjust this?
